In response...

I might suggest that you speak with companies and/or their representatives (not contract landmen) on the issues at hand. Some of what you speak of is true. Drafts have been stopped, which in the business is known as "cold drafting". Not looked upon nicely by those in the industry. I think you might look more past the cutting of production money and do some homework on these companies, stock holders, etc. However, in the context of your message, how would you continue to drill on the vast acreage that is currently under lease (mostly for a 3 year period of time) unless most of this acreage is already held by production. Most of these leases will expire under their own terms unless "flip" to another active company or and joint venture is agreed to between those. There is one company is still quite active in Eastern Texas, unfazed by the worldwide financial issues that have hit all the other companies in the area... Common Resources, LLC. Solid, Ethical and Focused.

BTW... Chesapeake is CHX on the NYSE....not CHK

talk to landmen working for HK CHK XTO DVN All lease active is on hold for unknow period of time. All draft have been stopped on present deals, will not be paid and these lease will terminate at end of draft time period. They have cut production money. However the good news is they will continue to drill the leases they have which is enough land to drill for the next 20 years
