Does anyone know how to start an official Landowners/Homeowners Coalition? Do we need to record it with the Secretary of State? How do the neighborhood associations collect dues if it is not officially recorded with the State of Louisiana as a Non-Profit Organization? Any information is very helpful. Thanks

From what I have seen, many homeowner associations are formed when one person (or a team of people) devote their time and energy to gather the resources needed to help those in their community. This is not so much a legal status, but more of a gathering for the betterment of all involved. For those who wish to charge membership fees, they delve into a more legal presence, which would require them to file their intentions with the state.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
