Just noticed that on 5/24/2011 STM Oil & Gas submitted
for 7 vertical drilling permits at a location that is 4.2 miles north of
Jefferson and adjacent to Hwy 59 on the west side. Is this a new area of interest
for oil/gas and does anyone have any other information for other mineral/land
owners in this play?

Dave,
We are located about 3 miles north on 59 from the 7 permitted wells and about 1/2 mile east of 59. The family has owned this property for about 45 yrs. There was some seismic work done in 1983 and the geologist told my dad there was deep gas/oil shows but was too deep to drill at that time. We are not currently leased. There are many shallow oil wells to the east of our land but they are many years of age and by now most are plugged.
Thanks Dave,
I will post if I receive any future leasing inquires.
Dave, We talked some time ago and I would like to get an update from you since we seem to have mineral rights on the same property. I would like to confirm that fact. Would you contact me at victoriaridge@gmail.com, please.

I haven't checked on the status of activity since we last talked. This was before you renewed your lease. Can you bring me up to date? my email is: victoriaridge@gmail.com. I can also give u my cell.

I feel cautionary about Bachtell.
Other posts have indicated that STM is owned by David McAlpine, an OBGYN in Ft Worth. Our family owns minerals in the area covered by these permits and we have been in negotiations with David and his son, Craig, to sell or lease our minerals to them. During those negotiations, they have indicated to us that they own about 2000 surface acres on both sides of 59 north of Jefferson. They have also expressed serious concern about the safety and and environmental hazards of the drilling process.
Those are the facts. Here is an opinion: This is a power play designed to disrupt the process of developing minerals in this area. STM has no intention to drill these permits. They are merely attempting to roadblock the efforts of others. Based on what I have been told by the McAlpines and the wildcat producer, Bachtell Oil and Gas, trying to lease this area, STM does not own or lease enough of the minerals to form drilling units. How could they get permits if that were the case?

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
