My neighbor remarked in passing that when he sold his minerals, mine was included.  His land is horseshoed around mine.  I have not been contacted and I have not received any notices or anything.  He said they are about to drill on his property.  What can I do???/

Where are you? Township, range, section or other location?

How long have you owned the land? Do you own the minerals?

How many acres?
If you own your minerals no one can sell them, could he sell your house?
he thinks the land man made a mistake and included ours with his. The Assessors office shows our house on the opposite site of the road on the old maps. The computer map shows it correctly. How do I find out??
Mommy,
Sounds like he may have meant to say "leased" his minerals, not "sold" his minerals.
But no one else could lease your minerals either.
See if you can get the neighbor to give you a copy of the lease he signed? That's a good starting point. In theory, you can look up the lease yourself at the courthouse.

If we know the township, section, and range of the section you're in, we can give you more info. You can find that in SONRIS if you can figure out how to use that. Or send me enough info to find your house on the map and I'll find the township, range, and section for you. If you can find a couple of cross streets nearby, we may be able to help.

How many acres do you own?

In theory, any lease your neighbor signed on your property is invalid, no matter who made the mistake. If a unit was formed and "force pooled," they can now drill without your permission, but they will owe you money after they pay for their drilling cost. Did you ever get a notice from a lawyer about a unit being formed?

There are a lot of crooks in the O&G business, but the operating companies are unlikely to flat out steal your minerals once they find out the situation.
