Ford Motor Co. has named a subsidiary of Seal Beach-based Clean Energy Fuels as its official qualified vehicle modifier – or QVM – to provide after-market compressed-natural-gas conversions on the automaker’s vans, cutaway shuttles, taxis, pickups and light-duty trucks.

“We are very proud to have earned this special designation from Ford,” said John Bacon, president of Dallas-based BAF Technologies, which was acquired by Clean Energy Fuels in 2009. “BAF is the first CNG vehicle upfitter in the United States to be named a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier for gaseous fuels – an honor that recognizes the success of our continuing efforts over time to deliver the best quality product to our natural-gas fleet customers.”

BAF provides alternative fuel systems, service and warranty support, and research and development of aftermarket systems for domestic light-duty fleets. Clean Energy is the largest provider of natural-gas fuel for transportation in North America.
