I saw an article in the Shreveport Times on Tuesday or Wednesday,6/24 where a gas co. spokesman said the lease price per acre now has gone to $600 to $900 per acre. I know there is not much leasing going on, but that is ridicules. Anybody else see that, and what does it mean?

It means they talked to a landman or O&G representative. :)
some people i know just got 2500.00 per acre around cross lake. i know that's a lot less, but it's not 600 to 900 either.
The spokesman was Kevin McCotter of Chesapeake. And his comment may be accurate as to what Chesapeake's current "opening" bonus offer may be for tracts they have no intention to drill in the foreseeable future but it has no relevance as to what they offer for tracts that they intend to develop in the near term. If Chesapeake, or any other operator, really "needs" a tract, they will pay significantly more. If Chesapeake merely wishes to add a tract to their leasehold for future possibilities, they will make the lowest offers for which they can find any takers.
I am pretty sure you will hear of quite a bit more in western Bienville soon.
BD. There have already been some interesting offers coming out of western Bienville. $5k/one year term - $10k/two year term. No operator makes offers like that unless they have intentions to begin development very soon. But those offers are made only for specific and limited areas. One of my clients has been building a gathering system to serve this portion of the play. There is not only leasing activity but development activity.
yep
Amen Skip and Taylor,
People are fixing to see a lot of activity in western Bienville (Alabama Bend included). Good luck to all in that area.
Petrohawk, right now, is trolling around trying to scoop up unleased land in some areas. I know of offers in the $3000 - $5000 per acre range. These offers were firmly rejected by the landowners. All landowners need to ask themselves: Will several hundred (or even several thousand) dollars/acre make a difference in my life? If so, take it. If not, consider holding out. Rates will only stay low if people accept them.
I know of current offers that are CONSIDERABLY higher than what was posted above...
That is good to know Atsu-in-Japan. I wish you folks the best of luck in negotiating!
Thanks Taylor. Best of luck to you and yours as well.
can you be more specific?
