Disparity between the Drilling Unit numbers in SONRIS and the Wells Names?

So, I am looking in Sonris, and I have turned on the layer "Haynesville Shale Units", and its associated text.

It appears that there are 5 wells drilled in my TRS. The drilling unit text says "HA RA SU54", but there are 4 wells all next to each other, and in the well names they have different numbers. Some seem to say that the well is in drilling unit 74, some 75, one 78, and just one is 54.

It seems then that the "Haynesville Shale Units" overlay is not an accurate depiction of the units. It seems to follow the section lines (a grid pattern where there's a single Drilling Unit number in each section), but now I feel that might not be the case. I'm trying to determine just how we can identify what wells are on our land, or rather what drilling unit our land is a part of. it is located in sec 26, twn 15n, rge 14w

Any insight on this would be great.

Aegis,
Are you using the GIS Map on the DNR site? If so, then try zooming in (ALOT) and that should fix you up.

Earlene AKA the Shoe Shopper :-D
Thanks. I zoomed in as far as I could, and the HA RA SU54 stays on screen no matter how far I zoom in. The area looks like what is shown here, but even if I zoom to where there is just a single dot and the map scaling says "0 in=0 miles", clicking the info icon and clicking the screen still says that it's HARASU54.

Thusly, I don't know what to believe on what units these wells belong to. In most cases where I am new to something, I simply assume I am doing it wrong.

I suspect that what you are looking at are "Surface" locations. You can drill numerous wells from a surface location into adjoining sections. You need to look at the "Bottom Hole" locations for each well to determine which section/unit it is actually producing from. This will tell you how to do that.

Ah, so they can drill down vertically, and then move horiziontally to get to the deposit, which may be an underground run into a completely different drilling unit. I see... So, the placement of the well is unimportant then, as far as royalties go? Moreso, it is where the gas is coming from that matters? Interesting.
The Bottom Hole Location dictates the unit producing the gas. And the royalty owners of record in that unit receive payment.
