Are the companies who are drilling for natural gas also drilling for oil? To my understanding, both can be drilled at the same time. Yes????
If they, "the companies" are only drilling for gas, when will they drill for oil?

They drill for oil where oil is present, recoverable and economic. There isn't even a hint of oil in the Haynseville Shale on my property and no prospect of any that I'm aware. In the Eagle Ford shale in south Texas there is dry gas as well as oil and byproducts. Petroleum drillers sure like it better when they can also get oil, but that's like me going into the watering hole at the end of my street and hoping to find a woman with all her teeth. You can't extract what isn't there to begin with.
Ken, if you are referring to total company activity most pursue both natural gas plays and oil plays.
A single drilling target is normally either oil or natural gas. But an oil target has associated natural gas when produced and most natural gas targets produce associated condensate. The exception would be ultra dry natural gas like the Fayetteville Shale that produces no condensate.
