I just bought some tomato plants, and want to plant them in some pots, is there anything special I should know.
Jim,
This is my first attempt at it, I went and bought some plants and set them in the backyard. It hailed the same night. A few minor broken limbs but I think they will be alright.
That a good questions? They came in a single pot and cost about $4, the pot they came in is about 4 inches around. Assuming they were just like regular tomato plants, how big of pots should I plant them in.
KB,
I had two choices, I could buy the ones that came six in a pack and were about 3 inches tall, or the single plants that were 6 inches tall. I don't have very good patience so I bought the bigger ones. It is funny how you get older, twenty -five years ago I was planting weed and now I'm planting maters.
Instant gratification!
I'm just now getting into gardening, I think this stuff is pretty cool. Now after all these years, of really never thinking about it or caring about it, the idea of walking right outside your door and picking your own fresh veggies makes very good sense. It's fresher, it's cheaper what's not to like ,why in the heck did I wait so long.
Is that variety kinda like big boys ?
How many different types of tomatos are there?

Oh, several thousand I would guess. (LOL)
Dorcheated,
There are staking tomatoes, not to be confused with stalking tomatoes, bush tomatoes, vigorous bush tomatoes, fast ripening tomatoes, main season tomatoes, late variety tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, (old as dirt), hybrid tomatoes, (no, not made by Toyota), plum tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, Big boy tomatoes, (no little girl tomatoes at this time), big rainbow tomatoes, (I won't even go there), brandywine tomatoes (Ted Kennedy's favorite), salad tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. This concludes my 'mater tutorial. Thanks for your time.
Wow, folks I had no idea on earth they had that many types of tomatos. I really thought there was only about two or three different types, cherry and regular. Lord only knows what I bought.
I would have to have 2 glasses of chardonnay before I could even try goat cheese. Yikes! Dont sip so I will have to stick with the regular ruined milk cheese. :-)
