Story 1 Comments Font Size: GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Grand Junction will run the road with its new green fleet, which arrived just Thursday morning. Four shiny compressed natural gas trucks pulled in to the Western Colorado Truck Center. Three of the trash trucks are side loaders and don't need any help from human hands. The fourth big wheeler collects large containers from the front end. Officials say the environmentally friendly cng vehicles will ultimately save the city money and pollution.

"By having this cleaner burning fuel, we produce fewer toxic emissions. that should help clean up our air, and keep it clean for a longer period of time," says Grand Junction Mayor Teresa Coons.

Mesa County's first CNG station was unveiled Saturday.
The trucks are fueled by Monument Oil, which uses local sources of natural gas from Western Colorado.
