Henry, I haven't read any statements from ECA regarding their CUL designs in corporate presentations and press releases.  From general industry statements I think that technology is playing catch up to the new drilling paradigm.  I think that the ability to drill a deep horizontal well with a 10,000' lateral is not a problem.  The problems are more related to completing the well.  Long laterals require greater pumping pressures for frac pumps.  The standard coil tubing rigs used to drill out the frac plugs have been a problem which is being addressed with improvements in rig design.  I'm seeing a wide variance in lateral lengths in instances where the permitted lateral length could be greater.  Other than technical limitations there are other logical reasons for laterals short of maximum allowable length.  One advantage would be in dealing with faults.

Note that Encana has a group of 7500' or so CULs, but CHK seem to prefer the 6k' or so.  (I will post some of those applications as Skip requested).  When I asked a CHK representative about it, they said the longer laterals concerned them re:...diminishing returns.  Data will tell who is right.  Maybe we can get a group of 10k CULs close to these to compare.

Good idea, HBP.  We've had little interest to date in this discussion topic which surprises me a little as it is the future of horizontal development in general and specifically in the Haynesville in the form of CULs.  If lessors wish to see increased development they should be interested in operators successfully developing this model as it has the potential to drive down cost per mcf and make Haynesville wells more profitable at depressed natural gas prices.
