Effect of choke sizes on production in horizontal and vertical oil wells

Good question, if it was a question - What impacts and effects does the amount of choke set have on the well itself, other than the amount of flow through the valve? Does a lessened flow allow the cracks from the fracking to plug up or do they stay open once in place? I know that our water wells in NW Oregon always seem to slowly collapse out here if flow is reduced or inactive for long periods, but our soil is very much different from that of Texas, so I would like to hear the answer.
