Things continue to cause a glut in nat Gas prices. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttt cried jack Blake!

NG everywhere in massive quantities and P/L's exploding. Will the USA ever convert to NG in the next 25 yrs, 50 yrs, 100 years?

Jack blake wants to know. He thinks he will go to natchitoches and ask Miss Jane..............

Jack, I am begining to fear that most of the US will not want to expand their NG. I know here on the Left Coast the BP spill and the PGE blow up have scared the hell out of people. The NY State legislature is debating fracking right now.

I am wondering if over the long term NG production in the south will expand, but not in other areas of the country. The south already has the infrastructure, regulators, trained workers and social consciousness to develop it. Take a look at a US map of natural gas transmission lines. They are largely concentrated in the south. That may give southern states a huge supply of inexpensive energy, which is great for the region.

Just my hip hop pocket opinion, I'm just another mineral owner ...
There is one producer/operator working with a utility in the NE (Would that be considered the "other" left coast? Don't really think they consider themselves all "right?" lol)

"Once completed, the pipeline will provide a new interconnect with facilities of Consolidated Edison of New York (NYSE:ED), which will deliver up to 800 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of additional natural gas to Con Edison’s service area. Chesapeake is the largest capacity holder with a commitment of up to 425 mmcf/d. The expansion is expected to be in service by year-end 2013."

When gasoline goes back to $4+ per gallon, a lot of consumers will think twice about CNG powered vehicles. They actually make more sense in densely populated areas with relatively short commutes, like the NE. Once the frac water controversy subsides, the transition of nat gas to preferred hydrocarbon status for electrical power generation will move forward. The present debate is but a speed bump. Major E&P's would not be supporting the publication of frac formulas if they thought it was an unwinable issue. The service companies, Schlumberger, Haliburton, etc. are the ones holding up the disclosure for proprietary reasons. The pressure will eventually get to them and they will relent. Then the chicken littles will not have an issue and those that really care about clean energy will embrace nat gas and CNG.
that's a good analysis. I've been really surprised at the reaction on the west coast, but this has long been an anti o&g development area despite having a huge number of autos!

Last night at our neighborhood watch meeting a woman remarked "thank god we don't have any natural gas lines in our neighborhood. "

She practically needed smelling salts to revive her when someone said YES we do have natural gas lines! We have hydroelectric power in the northwest and not all that many consumers use natural gas.
Logger - Perhaps the geology of that region of the country, with very active fault lines & a volcano that goes off whenever, is a factor in the concerns about pipelines that could be damaged?

Yep, we have active earthquake lines out here! The volcanoes would not cause much trouble since they are mostly in remote areas.

I was here in 1980 when Mt. St. Helens blew. It woke all of us up and we had a 4 inch layer of ash on everything. The Grateful Dead played an long version of Fire on the Mountain in Portland the Sat. night before and the Dead Heads claimed that Jerry Garcia caused the mountain to blow. Gotta love those dead heads. :)

I just went up to Mt. St. Helens last month. It's unbelievable how mother nature has restored that area!
As someone who grew up in the SF Bay Area, and now live in the Pacific NW, I can say there are NG lines.
There are NG appliances stoves, ovens, and dryers etc here also.
I think it is the preferred method for cooking.
They are very old though. The house I grew up in and still own also has a NG furnace.
It is an older neighborhood than the one which experienced the explosion. (I hate to think how old the P/L is on the street where that house is.)
I guess my point it, the west coast uses NG like everywhere else, they just don't think about it like we do because we have stake in it with a different perspective.
They are now jolted into awareness about it, because of, the BP mess, the Gasland bru haha, and the P/L explosion in San Bruno.
Its too bad the NG industry assn or one of the companies, had not steadily been running PR ads to soft market the value and use of NG, building confidence and good will. Maybe even ads like BP's which make you think they are the best company in the world and the whole BP mess was not their fault and that they want to make everything right. I can't believe people can not see through that.
Jack wonders what the pressure was on the P/L in San Bruno. Jack thinks it was a high pressure line (like the ones they are currently running all across our land)..........We got the $................ our heirs will get the consequences in about 50 years...........
lines only last so long cried Jack Blake...............Playing Monday morning quarterback is easy...................
Here are some numbers for deaths & injuries for the past 5 yrs. The numbers really don't look significant in the big scheme of things, but to those who have had loved ones that were killed or injured I'm sure these numbers are too much. It really doesn't look like the numbers move down much, so could more be done to reduce them?

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
