I signed a lease with Wild Horse. Not thinking much about it - but ran into a neighbor who also had signed and their comment was not to expect anything because if anything is found on our land, the company will pipe the gas or oil underneath our property off of our property and we will not get anything. I may not be using correct terms - but can Wildhorse do this and bypass the landowner totally? I have leased several acres and I think based on what I have read in the discussions that what I got was a pretty fair price. So I am thinking that if Wildhorse finds anything on my land, that I will be compensated
Are the companies really operating so shady in the field? Does this really happen ? I am in Lincoln Parish.

Hey FEW,
First, Welcome to GHS.
Second, Your neighbor is wrong, period..... That's just someone that wants to start something. The production companies have to report where they drill, where the bottom of the hole ends up. What they believe the geology is as far as where the production is coming from and the land/mineral owner will have notice that there will be hearings for unitization before the Dept. of Conservation. Then the Company has to file monthly production reports. So you will have every chance to see what the company is doing. Don't listen to people that are trying to stir up problems that are not there.
I agree with Joe, FEW. The formations that Wildhorse is targeting require hydraulic fracture stimulation - fracking. Each well produces from a limited slice of rock and is incapable of pulling in gas and liquids from far beyond the frack cylinder. The bulk of these wells in your area are "unitized" which means that all mineral owners within the unit boundary share in the production regardless of the surface location or the bottom hole location of the unit wells.
Thank you so much for the timeline of events. Response is very clear and concise. I will not listen to the negative neighbor and now I have excellent information.
Wildhorse has been completing huge wells. I hope they have the same luck beneath your land.
Louisiana has pretty good laws in relation to protecting mineral owners such as yourself. Much better in my opinion than Arkansas or Mississippi. Your neighbor must have just watched the movie There will be blood and that got him stirred up. Good luck and congrats.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
