Encana has permitted to this formation in north Desoto. I have heard that Petrohawk has 2 test wells to the Smackover in south Caddo. Is this a 3rd gas formation or part of Bossier and or Haynesville?

TD,
Right, tell a guy what he wants to hear.....

Hey, you got another cold one?
BirdDawg,

You are absolutely right, as usual. All the interpretation is done in a far removed central location. Back in the "old days" (50's) when i worked on a "doodlebug" crew we did do interpretation in the field.
That was what I did for about 5 years, Working in and living in 23 different locations in 5 states.
You guys are correct. Some of the stuff they told me I dare not repeat. It is a big load of ______. You can fill in the blank. I have heard this stuff a lot. Before this site I figured they were just telling me this.
Yes. But up on the state line (LA./AR.) where it is of a depth conducive for oil prospects. Probably not in the area of the Haynesville Shale as that is generally too deep, hot and over pressured for oil.
It has always produced around the state line area where we have property. I think a lot of activity has been centered around the brown dense up in around the state line. I think they are trying to get it figured out. The short answer is who knows.
tony, see some of my previous posts concerning the ~90,000 acres of leasehold that Chesapeake assembled in 2007 in Harrison and Panola counties and Caddo and Bossier parishes. Including the few wells that were drilled along with the required infrastructure, I'd say Chesapeake invested somewhere in the neighborhood of $200M. They tried to sell the leasehold before their lease terms expired but had no takers. Yes, obviously they are not only willing to risk "that kind of money" but do so on a regular basis. And yes, when they get it right it can be so outrageously profitable that it makes up for the bets that don't work out. It is a common mistake to assume that O&G companies always get it right. The good ones get it right more often than they get it wrong.
