I'm going to go follow the other discussion so responses won't get crossed between the two. :0)
I was making a joke about the fact that T17, R14 is not highlighted by Skip, indicating it has no unit order/app.
The reason for 17N-14W having no Haynesville unit applications is that it is a densely settled, urban township that will be difficult and expensive to develop. The same applies to 18N-12W with the additional complicating factor that it contains much of the "back reservation" of Barksdale AFB.
Skip - densely populated was my thought, too. Also, thinking about driving through the southernmost area of that range, it may be the socioeconomic demographics?

If I'm not mistaken by looking at your map, this section is west of I-49 and south of 70th St.( I'm having trouble determining the roadway landmarks.) A very diverse population, in addition to some industrial/business.

As for BAFB's east side, could it be that orders/apps with Fed. gov't. don't come up on DNR? Is it possible that the minerals are still held by the family that gave the land to the gov't.? With all the operations already going on out there, I'm thinking it's already hbp?

At any rate, certainly a curiosity. Thanks for indulging me with your thoughts on the matter.

Have a great day - sesport
otl/sesport. As to socioeconomic demographics, I don't know. Density and cost and complexity to develop would be my guess. Not just from a leasing perspective but finding qualifying drill sites and building a pipeline system.

I would expect D&P unit applications by the state would be part of the public record and entered on SONRIS regardless of the governmental ownership of the land/minerals. The land that composes Barksdale AFB was several large plantations in the early 20th. century. The land was purchased by the citizens of Shreveport through a bond election with the intention to attract a military base. When it became clear that an Army Air Corp base was the most likely prospect, a survey was conducted and the Bossier Parish tracts identified as the best candidate. I do not know if there was a reservation of minerals involved in the purchase. I do know that the "back reservation" is a highly sensitive area with tight security as it is where the nuclear war heads are stored.
Skip when can we expect some activity in t17 r14 sec 35 we leased with petrohawk ( 4 yr lease and signed july 08.
There is plenty of drilling on the east side of barksdale.
Within the boundaries of the base?
Yes, mostly shallow gas wells.

There are alot of problems to drilling the base however, old weapons ranges, wetlands, sensitive areas (storage sites for nukes for one) to name a few.
Sounds like a scenario where multiple section drilling units and extra long laterals are called for. You're correct surface ops will be restricted.
Drilling on federal land is also a pain, there are many rules and regulations. I would imagine any part of the west half of the base would have even more problems, I imagine that most companies would rather go somewhere else to drill for now.
I checked with someone knowledgeable. No drilling or pipeline actiivity in the vicinity of weapons storage. The far east side, actually in Haughton, has had drilling & pipeline for years. I remember seeing it out there back in the 70's, but I don't know how long it had already been in place.

There's more than enough room out there, even with the wetlands, and far enough away from main ops of the base to do some drilling & production. My thought is that the #1 problem would be controlling who comes & goes.

Now, since it is federal land, my question remains whether apps, orders & reports have to be reported via DNR. Or would it be considered one of those instances that is "vital to national security?"

Thanks Baron & Skip - sesport :0)
