The Consortium for Education, Research & Technology Receives Grant Money from EnCana/Shell

And a hearty "Thank You" for seeing promise in our students and giving a much needed "leg up" during a time when educational funding is quickly drying up. I hope many will apply and have a summer experience to remember!

"The EnCana oil and gas company has made available a $110,000 grant, with $25,000 from Shell oil company, to start the camps with the Consortium for Education, Research and Technology of North Louisiana.

The program, for incoming 10th-graders in Caddo, Bossier, Bienville, Claiborne, DeSoto, Red River and Webster parishes, will consist of four free, week-long classes, taught at SUSLA and BPCC this summer."

 

Congratulations, too, to BPCC and SUSLA for a "JVP" that will positively impact our community.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
