What does "this interest has been suspended pending completion of title work" mean?

The owners of big plots of land around my own are already getting royalty checks. I emailed Goodrich and asked about the status of my royalties and was told that "this interest has been suspended pending completion of title work". I would like to know exactly what that means.
I am new to the site and to this type of discussion.

PS. I did a search and couldn't find this string in the forum so hopefully it's not a duplicate.

adubu,
This property is in Louisiana. It could require checking title a lot farther back than 10 years. My family is involved in a situation where they recently go a letter from Wildhorse Resourses stating that their royalty chechks have been suspended pending new title work. This is in the Terryville field in Lincoln Parish. I know for a fact that mineral title issues can be an absolute nightmare. The field I am referring to first came into production in the 1940's. Many people sold their minerals, and their were a lot of strangely configured units. No individual, unless they were an oil and gas attorney or a top notch landman, could figure out this mineral ownership. The property I am referring to is in a unit that is 2 sections. My mother has received a royalty check from KCS for 2 years (a small interest). KCS had extensive title work done 2 years ago before paying her. Now, Wildhores is doing new title work, which is understandable. But they may be coming up with a different answer. I guess waht I am saying is, as The Baron and Two Dogs have stated many times and as they well know, in some situations the landowner can not obtain a few records from the courthouse and resolve their own problems. In fact, in some cases they can not get every record THEY can find at the courthouse and prove anything. And in these complicated areas, you can not expect, or depend on, the courthouse personnel to help you retrieve every document relative to your interest. You can not believe how complicated some of this can be.

admuzic's situation may not be this complicated, but we do not want to mislead him or over simplify due to unknow facts.
BirdDawg, I run my title back to a solid deed before 1921 but before that I pick up the patent and look at the dates, fed and state differ with minerals.
TD,
You know what I am talking about.
People can not automatically tell mineral owners to go to the courthouse and get the relevant info. It just ain't that simple in some cases.
BD back in the mid 90's in the Austin Chalk some out of state landmen came into Louisiana and were buying leases off the tax rolls. Some deals didn't fly.
The plot of land that I am talking about was owned by a doctor for most of his life and he was nearly 80 when the land was purchased by my father. What is bugging me though, is the fact that my father has gotten royalties from the said land and not my brother and I. And my lots are spread out around the 20 acres.
It also bugs me that they told me that no one in that 20 acres had been paid when, in fact, my father received a check for 12 of those acres last week.

I may just wait a couple of weeks and try to go speak to someone in person out there.
TD,
Tax rolls my ass. They do it all the time. And we see where it gets them.
I've been in a hurry aand basicially bought a few leases off the tax roll and a quick ten year title... Of course I also paid it using a 45 day draft. no money went anywhere until we were satisfied.
BirdDawg--- I do not want to mislead him either-- I'll yield to the La. group since I live in Texas (Thanks goodness :)---- my offer still out there for all to come across the river and we can make Texans out of most of you. Since he has small interest maybe best to just wait it out siince the money is placed in escrow for owner of minerals. He can request since they paid him lease money on net minerals by cretified mail copy of their final title opinion if does not match his understanding of ownership then go from there. I'll leave other comment to La. group now. This is just my 2 cents.
So.....

How does title get cleared? Does the land/mineral owner get contacted about this at some point and then if it is soooo confusing that differing lawyers cannot agree on title then what becomes of "mineral estate"? Does the company keep the money or does it go into a state account? How does the land/mineral owner ever get cleared title?
eventually the title will be cleared. There may be some curative work needed, but it will be worked out. This is why we have good title attourneys work on these things. It is possible that you may need to sign some curative work, at this point they will contact you.
