Skip, are you basing the "liquids" part on depth, or was there something filed with DNR that indicates this is a liquids well?
Neither. I'm basing it on previous HA wells drilled in this general area and the Haynesville liquids wells that APC is drilling in Panola and Harrison counties. Keep in mind that all the wells drilled in the APC North Caddo Haynesville units will be labeled "Haynesville" although the actual producing horizon may be Haynesville, Bossier or Lower Cotton Valley. The unit depth definitions cover 1500 feet of stratigraphic intervals. IMO, there is no reason to drill Haynesville horizontal wells at this time in this area, or any other area for that matter, unless APC thought they would recover significant liquid fractions.
Hi Skip - Not sure I understand "all the wells drilled in the APC North Caddo Haynesville units will be labeled "Haynesville" although the actual producing horizon may be Haynesville, Bossier or Lower Cotton Valley." We have received letters from Anadarko's lawyers over the past months about their applications to unitize on some of our property by dissolving some Smackover units and creating "units for exploration for and production of gas and condensate from the Haynesville Zone, Reservoir A" in Caddo-Pine Island Field, etc. By your statement above, I take it that these applications might be for lower depths (Bossier or Cotton Valley) rather than Haynesville? thank you
HGH, each unit application and resulting field order describes a specific stratigraphic interval that is given a name by the applicant. Therefore all Haynesville units I have ever reviewed included in its depth definition the Bossier Shale. If an operator drills a Bossier well in that unit, the well is called a Haynesville (HA). In the early days of the HS PLay a number of operators applied for units with definitions that included the Haynesville and Bossier but also non-shale formations such as the Cotton Valley. The Commissioner put a stop to that in the Summer of 2008 but those units already approved were allowed to remain in force. I wrote a blog post about this at the time. Although the Haynesville definitions granted to APC in North Caddo cover a large interval of rock (~1500') the company has since formed two CV units which overlap two of the 960 acre HA units. Skip, I understand the rig is currently moving in and rigging up on the Comegys 26H.
Thanks, SB. Bought time. LOL!
APC received a permit to drill yesterday. Looking forward to a spud date.
Any word on a spud date for any of these locations for Anadarko?
Not as of Friday's rig report (3/1/2013). Keep in mind that these permits are good for one year.
Anadarko permits second HA horizontal in Caddo.

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
