Does anyone know of any new leasing, drilling, or other O&G activity in the southern counties of ARKANSAS?

Our family has some land in Columbia County (although we don't live in the area). We were contacted by Hunter about a year ago with a $150/acre and 1/8 offer. They just came back with $175 and 1/5. This is a step in the right direction, but want to make sure. Is this a good offer? Does anyone know about Hunter? Are they capitalized and able to take the area to drilling?

My wife and I are in the same situation as you,in the sense that we have acreage in Columbia Co.,but we live out of state.Im sorry I am not familiar with Hunter,but I hoped you could tell me the location of your land,so I could see where it was in relation to our property.Our land is in S2 T20s R19w.I know how you feel being away from the property and not knowing if you are receiving a fair offer.Good luck on the lease.

Hunter is working for Anderson Oil and Gas out of Shreveport. At this point, Border has left the building.
This is about as good as I have heard in Columbia County. EOG seems to be gone, Hunter is leasing for Anderson O&G out of Shreveport. Do what you want, but lots of people left a lot of money on the table with Border(EOG) in Lafayette County.
Im a little confused. What do you mean? Has EOG left Columbia County? What do you mean about alot of money left on the table in Lafayette County? Borders is still leasing here. They have also rented a office building here.
EOG has cleared out of their office in Magnolia and no sign of them in the local hotels.(I called and asked if they have been back in the last month)
I found this web site while I was looking for some information. I have been approached by Pinebelt Energy Resources to lease part of sec 1-18-17, around 230 acres, in Union County. My brother and I jointly own the property and it is currently a timber farm. We also own land adjoining the part they are interested in leasing. Their first offer was for $75 an acre on a 4 + 4 year lease plus I think it was 2/16 royalty. We would never sign the contract he forwarded and the offer he made was too low. My concern, if we come to an agreement, is pipelines and wells. How many pipelines and wells could we end up with? I dont want to ruin the timber farm. Any information would be helpful. Thanks
Janet, great for you for not wanting to destroy your timber farm. We are tree farmers almost due west of you in Columbia County. On July 24, 208 in a discusstion titled "Surface Damages" I posted some of my feelings about pipelines, oil wells and tree farms. While the entire response is not repeated here, I have tried to hit the high points.

I am fighting easements issues that my Grandfather signed almost 70 years ago. Be sure to think long term because what you sign today may affect your grand- and great grandkids. Some of those old easements were very general, ie in SW/4 of NW/4 or something similar. That was so open ended that production pipelines can and did go everywhere. Make sure lease says companies have to specify where the lines will be and provide surveys of each and every line.

We typically produce about $4,000 to $5,000 per acre from pine trees over a 22 to 24 year rotation so that should be taken into account when any yearly use rental rates are considered for pipelines or rent "damages" paid for a location.

Make sure there is a statement in lease that surface owner can use surface for all their surface uses. Some companies do not want logging equipment (or other heavy equipment) in their right-of-way so that could limit how easy it is to harvest trees or do other work. Make oil company bury lines below bare mininum required so these issues don't limit use of land in future.

Seventy years of experience dealing with oil companies over four generations has taught me, and now my kids, a lot.
Does anyone know who bought the abstract offices in Union, Columbia and Miller co????????? Is there much activity at the court houses. I have friends in Union Co that say there is a lot of activity but I do not see that on this blog.
