I live about a mile south of Sligo Road in South Bossier Parish. A couple of years ago we received a letter from a lawyer representing Chesapeake stating there would be a meeting discussing drilling in our area. When I replied to the letter I received a phone call from the lawyer, asking what I wanted to know, since he said I was the only one who responded. I simply stated I wondered what was going on with all the drilling. Since my ex husband and I own our four acres together, he wanted to talk to him. They spoke once, and after that he stopped returning our phone calls.

Last year we received a check for $3000 from a company in Fort Worth, asking to purchase our mineral rights. Of course we didn't cash it, even though they sent us another one shortly after.

Since that time all of this Haynesville Shale news has broken loose. I still have the letters we received from Chesapeake, but they are simply confusing maps of grids that make no sense to me.

My neighbor across the street apparently also spoke with that lawyer two years ago and leased his mineral rights for about $250/acre. He has additional land in our neighborhood, and says he was recently offered $8000.

My concern is this: a man going door to door about putting in a water system said that no one in this neighborhood owns their mineral rights. He insisted that Chesapeake bought them all in the 1930's and has continually drilled since then.

I have not been approached by anyone in two years, and wonder what's happened. Are we in force-pooling?

My neighbors are not very chatty (except the one who leased) and I can't find anyone else on here who lives in my area. (off Jamerson) We have a lot of wells in this neighborhood that were drilled in just the past two years.

Anyone out there live in my area and know what's going on?

I'm embarrassed to admit I have no idea what section I'm in? How can I tell?
Thanks - that gave me all my tax information (assessment, etc.) but nothing about what section I'm in. I know there's a grid on this web site but it doesn't have any roads so I can't tell from that.

Forgive me, I'm very new to this.
I'm on Joyner Drive, which is off the end of Jamerson...
Thanks!
I did the search using my assessment number because I just happened to have received a card from the parish assessor's office in the last week or so. That's what brought up our address and the tax valuation of our property.

So my question is, the last two numbers of "what" should be my section? The assessment number is a six digit number, ending in 7684. That doesn't sound right.

Not sure where else to look.
Could you be in the same section as The Orchard?
Joyner dr shows to be in sect 25 Township 17N range 12W
I am very apprecitive and can't help but marvel at how you've all been able to navigate this. What is the sonris map?

Once I know my section, then what? Does anyone else here live in that area?
You want to find out if there's any production in your section. Go to the following sight and type in this information: 25 17N 12W

Do you know for sure you own your mineral rights?
The clerk of court,Cindy Johnson, will assist you in this. her email and email link are in the forum. Many subdivision resident do not own their mineral rights. Check your deed and see if they were reserved. Gossip is just that.
Terry I couldn't get that link to work. I'll try hand typing it in, though, so thanks.

po boy, thanks for the info. I did check all the paperwork we signed when we bought the house and there was no reference to mineral rights at all. (we bought in 1996) But of course that's not the deed itself.
Thanks Terry I did try again and was able to pull up activity in my area. These wells were dug in the 30's, 40's, 50's, & 60's but the couple of wells I clicked on stated there were illegal activity and fines involved as recently as this year.

I will have to check with the clerk of court, as advised, to see if I do indeed own my mineral rights.
Here's how we're running in circles...(and I bet I'm not the only one)

We bought our property a dozen years ago, which means that if there were no activity the mineral rights would have reverted back to us (if they'd been reserved, and if they were it was not in any of the paperwork we signed at closing).

It appears there's been some activity, but since I'm not in the oil business, the info I found on the sonris site doesn't mean much to me. As I said, most of it dates back many decades and it's unclear to me if production stopped.

I went to the clerk of court's site, which says that you need to check with the office of conservation. (http://dnr.louisiana.gov/haynesvilleshale/default.asp) At the office of conservation site, it says you need to check with your clerk of court to see if you own your mineral rights. It then says that if mineral rights aren't mentioned, you'll have to hire someone to do the research for you.

Ugh.
