Thanks, Jim. Hughes was down to the last 5 weeks of their permit. Good to see that they will spud under the current permit. Now the question is, who is Hughes drilling this well for? Themselves? Or a bigger player trying to keep a low profile? There's always a mystery or two to solve. Keeps things interesting.
Thanks for sharing and I'm glad they are drilling. How many LSBD wells is that now? 8 total?
Anyone know anything about Dan Hughes??
Dan A. Hughes Co. engages in oil and gas exploration and production. The company is located in Beeville, Texas.
November 10, 2011
Fort Worth-based private equity firm TPG Capital announced Nov. 9 it has it has formed a new venture, Maverick American Natural Gas, backed with initial capital of $1 billion to acquire and operate conventional natural gas-producing assets in North America.
TPG Capital has teamed up with two energy industry veterans, Dan Allen Hughes Jr. and Thomas M. Hart III, to form a new venture. Hart, with 20 years experience in the energy sector, will be president of San Antonio-based Maverick, while Hughes, who has more than 30 years experience, will be chairman.
“We believe that natural gas will play an important and growing role in satisfying our country’s energy needs over the next decade and beyond,” said Michael MacDougall, partner at TPG Capital in a news release. “Dan Allen and Tom are proven leaders with deep industry knowledge and operating acumen, and we look forward to leveraging their expertise to build a compelling platform.”
In addition to his role at Maverick, Hughes is CEO and president of Dan A. Hughes Company LP and Hupecol Operating Company LLC. Hughes is a member of the Texas A&M University College of Geosciences Advisory Council, the Sul Ross State University Borderlands Research Institute Advisory Board, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and the All American Wildcatters.
keith and BLO, thanks. I am aware of the company background on Dan A. Hughes having performed research when the well permit was issued 5 months ago. I don't think the Plum Creek well has anything to do with TPC Capital or natural gas.
The name Maverick is a common name, but up here it's not a real good choice. There was a Maverick Oil and Gas that sprung up when the F'ville first got under way. The leased up a bunch of land east of the main part of the play. They drilled four or five holes, may as well built a big bon fire and tossed their money into it. I am not saying they did anything dishonest or such, they just picked some goat pasture to drill in. I don't know if this Maverick is related at all, or if it matters, I just would have picked a different name...
Any new updates on progress of the well?
SONRIS Lite reports drilling at 5760 feet as of 3/7/2012.

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
