PERMIT EXPIRED 180 DAYS--WELL CANNOT BE DRILLED UNDER THIS SERIAL NUMBER
Read this in SONRIS for our section. What does this mean to the drilling co. if the well permit has expired. Do they have to repeat the same permitting process again (hearings, etc.)?

There are no hearings for well permits. Only for unit and alternate unit well applications. The operator is out the cost of filing the permit, about $1200. They can easily file for a new permit and now have the added option of applying for a drilling permit good for 12 months. Dont' read too much into this as it is not a rare occurrence.

Gotcha, I was thinking of unit creation. I guess they let some expire just because they can't drill fast enought. Thanks.

In 2008 some permits expired because no rig was available at the time. Most companies turned right around and repermitted. There can be a myriad of reasons why a permit expires but that's one reason why the industry lobbied for a twelve month permit.
