Encana creating 4 drilling/production units in T9N R10W S22, S23, S27, S26

I got this in the mail today. While the letter says Sabine Parish the map says Natchitoches. I checked with the lawyer and he confirmed that the location on the map is correct. Great news for Natchitoches Parish. Bad news for me I am in an adjacent section. Guess I can watch my neighbors build new houses. Maybe I can get a loan from one of them :-) . Oh well I am happy for them! I figure my grandchildren will be rich from this Haynesville Shale play. All good things take time.

Thanks for the heads up, Worn Out. These are the first Haynesville (HA) Drilling & Production units in 9N - 10W and they represents a significant extension of the Play. It's good news for Natchitoches and Sabine parishes.
Looks like that is outskirts of Marthaville. Very interesting! I heard several people in that area sold half their mineral rights last year because they didn't think they would get a shot at a Haynesville in the next 10 years.
olddog, drilling units are good indicators of development interest but wells are required to confirm the prospective nature of the Marthaville area. Mineral owners who sold half their mineral rights in north Caddo in late 2008 are real pleased that they did.
Yep, I understand, but it would make me nervous for the 10 year period if drilling units were being formed around me.
Skip,
Do you think that maybe all the recent activity in the Southeast portion of the play is the result of the seismic testing done in 2009? Could it be that the results are back, and they indicate things look good in this area?
Just heard there is talk of Encana wanting to drill a well in one of these units plus one that will be drilled somewhere around the patterson pond area which is on the Marthaville/Many road.
Henry. I haven't heard anything regarding the seismic. And I am unsure if any seismic results would be definitive. I think that drilling is required to determine the quality of the rock in this area of the Play.
Skip, this represents a step into a Township and range, 9N-10W, that has been mostly left out of leasing. I wonder what lease bonus amounts would be paid in this Township and range now. Any ideas?
Not just yet treeman. However I would suggest that anyone who is unsure of the value of their minerals wait until we can assemble some reliable data. When in doubt it is a good idea to wait until your section has a unit order and a Haynesville horizontal well drilling. Then you know the offers are serious and not just "opening offers". It is simple logic to expect offers to be lower for acreage that a company doesn't plan to drill for a year. And higher where they have intentions to develop now.
olddog, Unless there's another one, the Dr. Patterson pond is 1/2 mile out of Marthaville going north on the Marthaville-Ajax highway 487. The location is S27 T9N R10W
Bob, about 3 miles out of Marthaville going toward Many on the Marthaville/Many highway in the Rocky Springs community another Dr. Patterson property that was sold just before or right after Doc died many years ago (he apparently accepted a lot of property in lieu of cash for his services), also has a huge pond (one of the original watershed projects built in the sixties to control flooding, soil erosion etc. per my understanding). I have not heard the rumor before now that a well is planned for the area, our family property is within a couple hundred yards and we are not leased and have not been contacted for a lease at S8 T8N R10W.
R Gandy, that is the area that I was referring to. Used to be some dang good bass fishing in that pond. I haven't been there in a while since the ownership changed.
