The letter you got is for spacing. There are required set backs from unit boundaries and adjacent wells. Before an operator can get a well permit to drill, like the two above, they must get the spacing approval from the state. An application for that spacing requires a notice letter sent to all those surface and mineral owners within the unit boundary and immediately adjacent to a distance of 1000'. After that application is approved the operator can then apply for well permits to drill. There is no notice required for that step. The only way to know is to check the permits entered in the SONRIS database. It is common for operators to get spacing approval for more wells than they plan to drill. This eliminates the spacing step when the next well or group of wells in ready to be permitted. I have seen spacing approval Field Orders for up to 24 wells. It is likely that those wells will be drilled in groups over a number of years.
Anybody know if the new Indigo well in 15-10-10 is a good well or a dry hole. There is a lot of information Sonris about the well but I can't tell by the language what the end result is. The well # is 252182
There are two wells being drilled from the surface location in Section 15 although neither will be producing from Section 15. S/N 252182 will produce from sections 22&27. That rig is in the process of drilling the lateral. S/N 252181 will produce from sections 14&23. That well has been drilled to the "kick off" point and is waiting on a rig (likely the same rig drilling 252182) to drill the curve and the lateral. It could be a month or two before the wells are completed and another 4 to 6 months before the completion data is reported to the state and available on SONRIS. The other wells completed in that general proximity have been good wells and I would expect both of these to be also as long as there are no mechanical problems.
Skip do you know how much of the horizontal of S/N 252182 is in section 27 and how much is in 22? Is that ratio how they split the production payments between the two sections? Thanks in advance.
Brian, I'm having some computer problems. I will try to make time to look tomorrow.
Until the well is reported complete and the "perf" letter is available in the database, all we have to go on is the well plat filed along with the permit to drill. That plat shows a surface location in Section 15 and the perforated portion of the lateral being approximately 4950' in Section 22 and 500' in Section 27.
Skip the 252182 well has now reported on Sonris and its initial flow rate of 14564MCFD. Can you now see how much of the lateral is in section 27 and section 22? Does this mean it is now flowing into a pipeline?
Based on Skip's earlier comment, over 90% of the lateral is in Section 27. Final survey details may impact this percentage a bit, but this is close to what the production ratio with Section 22 owners will be.
No way of knowing if well was tied to pipeline when this IP rate was measured. Highly possible that they were just flowing well thru testing unit to get frac fluid unloaded and a test rate established prior to constructing pipeline connection.
Attached is the final directional survey from SONRIS.
Note the end of the lateral (in Section 22) is at 17,933;.
Last perforation was listed at 17,709' - or 224' short of the ultimate TD of this lateral.
Production percentages may be based on last perforation point instead of end of the lateral - which would reduce the Section 22 production share.
I am not familiar how this is normally handled as to production sharing.
The "perf letter" report should be added to the Well File in the near future.
Brian, yes, the well is "turned to sales" as of the completion date listed. Keep in mind that it can take 6 to 8 months before mineral lessors begin to receive royalty payments on new wells.
Skip and Rock Man thank you for the information. It looks like this well has been flowing since late Oct 2020. When I look at the SONRIS map the bottom hole location has changed. It does not show going into section 27 like it did originally. Maybe that is why there has been no contact from Indigo about the production? Could they have changed the well so that Section 27 is not a part of well 252182.
Brian, the short answer is yes. For some reason that I didn't find the well name was changed and the lateral was drilled entirely in Section 22. You are correct that the original permit showed it as an HC well to be drilled in sections 22 & 27. The last "take Point" in 22 is almost 1000' from the boundary between 22 and 27. That short of a lateral is usually the result of a mechanical problem either with the drilling of the well bore or with the completion operations.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
