Steve, I don't think there's much doubt that they are planning more wells in the south end.  That unit is just west of the A-398 Unit #1H which has a 4000' lateral and produced 2,758,924 mcf in a year (Aug. 2010-July 2011).  These three wells will be twice as long.  From the penetration point the 1H will have a 9236' lateral, the 2H will be 8535' and the 3H will be 8000'.

Julie, as far as I know, Encana has never had E Texas laterals anywhere near this long (I'm not sure if others have). Are they breaking out two things at once - Super Pad and Super Long?

I believe they are, Steve.  They are also drilling some long laterals in Louisiana HA but the longest HA wells over here, so far, have been XTO wells in Shelby County and they were less than 8K'.

Just a little trivia... EnCana holds a record for greatest number of wells from one pad. They have drilled 52 directional wells from a single 4.6 acre pad in a canyon in Colorado.

Would the "pad" itself take up the 4.6 acres? Do you know where a drawing of the actual finished drilling could be seen on the one in Colorado?

Steve, EnCana filed three more permits today in a unit on the east side of the A398 Unit... all ~8000'.

Julie, you are right! Another three 8000 footers, this time heading south. They are different from the three above in that Encana went back to normal acreage (599), so at this point they aren't lining up to drill three more north. What this does mean is that Encana now has SEVEN wells potentially to be drilled within maybe a half-mile of each other, six of the seven with 8000 foot laterals. Wow, are they starting a new chapter in the Haynesville book?

 

I also see Encana is back to their old tricks. Of the 599 acres, a grand total of 0.85 acres are held by someone other than BlackStone.

I wouldn't worry about those units being "Black Stone only" acreage. I wouldn't be surprised to see more acreage added either to the north or the south (on this one) if they want the well layout to look more like the last unit did.

I was through the county on 103 today and there is water line run down to the Hereford Survey so they are probably completing one of those wells now (A19 1H or A20 1H... who knows... maybe both?).

I am ever hopeful that activity will pick up again once the 2012 budgets come out.
