I received a request to drill a 300 ft deep 4 inch hole from Micro Seismic for the benefit of St. Mary.  Our interest is leased to another company.  Last year received 15 per acre for seismic and wires were laid across property.  Now this other company is offering 1K per hole mentioned above.  Anyone educate me of what is the purpose?? and will the 300 ft holes be filled back in? is 1K per hole appropriate?  thanks

Microseismic Inc is a company that helps oil & gas companies monitor their hydraulic fracturing jobs (which is necessary to achieve economic flow rates from wells). They will typically drill a number of these holes over a fairly broad area and then will put one or a number of geophones/sensors down the holes. The sensors will record information during the frac jobs and be processed in a computer to create a 3D view of the reservoir's response to the frac job. Done properly, the information can indicate the location, extent and effectiveness of the fracturing so that optimum completion of the well can occur.

Most of the time the sensors are retrieved and the holes are filled in after the jobs. However, in some instances there is interest in monitoring reservoir performance over an extended period of time and, in those situations, the sensors are left in the holes and the holes remain open/active for awhile. It would be good to clarify this with MSI.

Good luck.
MicroSeismic has already installed 2 cameras on our property. They were in & out with little disturbance. The is no noticeable remnants of their work. I recommend allowing access as they will give information to the O&G's that could benefit you.
Thanks for all the info
Where is Microseismic now planning to drill on behalf of St. Mary? I have two properties in San Augustine County under St. Mary leases that will expire this year, and I have future offers from others.

It would help me to know where they are looking.

Many thanks!
Willis,
Will you tell us which SA survey your property is in which is currently being held, under lease, by St. Mary?
I've just found your April 19th message (the miracle of modern electronics!).

One lease is in the Jonathan Bittick Survey, A-55, which (if my information is correct) is underneath land where Larry Jackson now lives. This is in the neighborhood of St Mary Ironosa #1-H.

The other lease is in the Edmund Quirk Grant, A-35, part of the larger Bodine family holdings. It is just across Hwy 147 from St Mary Bland Lake #1, producing on a 640-acre block that includes four Rule/Bodine family tracts.

You can see why I am interested in current events . . . . at least this is on land, unlike the infamous BP Horizon drilling in the Gulf.
Willis - They are conducting seismic holes to place an instrument into on behalf of St. Mary according to what I received. I recognize your name and believe that you border us, I would think you'd received a letter in the mail also. I don't believe this has anything to drilling other than to complete more seismic studies. Near Liberty Hill.
Is there any sort of community owner's discussion in San Augustine about all of this, or is GoHaynesvilleShale.com the only available on-line forum?

It would seem to me that the various owners could benefit by sharing information. Perhaps they already do, and I'm just not yet in the loop.

BTW, one of my Taylor forebears founded the Liberty Hill church -- so I do feel connected, even though I live in Florida now. Maybe they don't have my address.
Willis unless you own the surface I don't think they have to contact you for seismic.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling
