Today I heard that CHESAPEAKE has made a BigHugous well in East Texas. My buddy is usually right with the gossip. He's not from East Texas and he acted confused about the actual County name - first he said (& mis-pronounced) "Panola" County; then, he said "Shelby".

I know CHK is drilling a well or 2 along in Shelby - - but this lone well sounded Ginormous, and "unusual" compared to other, similar wells. He also said CHK was unleashing landmen (like fireants) to cover the map. This sounds like CHK operations, giving creedance to the story. Has anyone heard of a well making MANY millions ("MM") of cubic gas per day from a single CHK well in either Panola or Shelby Counties?

Also, I'm a member of Nacogdoches County. Thank you, (the powers-that-be). Could this rumored well actually be in Nacogdoches County, which contains the oldest town in Texas?

Many thanks!

KJ, it is not technically feasible to do stacked multiple stage frac'ed laterals.

For very thick formations, such as the Pinedale tight sand, the practice is to complete with vertical multi-stage frac'ed wells rather than horizontal as this is more economic.
EastTexas, the technology breakthru by Mitchell was the light sand frac that allowed economic vertical completions in the thick core of the play.

The Chesapeake acreage was primarily located in the Tier 1 (Horizontal Core) south in Johnson & Tarrant County.
ALongview,
Is Chesapeake's 3000+ acreage on the northwest Sabine County line? Do they have a position in north east San Augustine?
It looks like it pretty much covers the northern part of the county. East, West, and Central.
How may I locate some way to identify what CHK purchased? Is a map (or description) on the web?
THANYEE KINDLY
You can search at the county records or you can pay and do a remote search online. I use www.countyrecords.com I checked again after Cheerleader asked about the acreage and it looks like it is about 5000 gross acres in the northern part of Sabine County. Also it looks like about 500 gross acres in San Augustine but most have been assigned to PXP in that county.
I heard that the Harvey 1 is the biggest yet. It is a CHK well that just got tied into pipeline. I sure hope this information is true. CHk has all the land leases in that area, including mine.
what area are you in?
Yikes, I'm trying not to be on pins and needles! I wish I could be there to hear the word on the streets in Center. Given the banter on the net, I can't help but feel something has popped, and just not released to the public yet. Seems that there has been plenty of time passed for getting drilled. Now I read that Harvey #1 has just been connected to the pipeline. So are the landman getting released in a rush to get people signed at low amonts, before the info is release to the public and we can ask for hgher dollars? Does anyone else feel that some big news is coming any day now?
