Greeting to all. I am a transplanted 'Louisianian' now living in North Carolina thanks to the U.S. Army.

I, with my sister, own 120 acres of land in Union Parish. This was my mom's land and we inherited it.

My mother and father are passed away, but before his death my father had entered into a lease with Pine Belt Energy. I have no idea what the lease terms are. I suspect that whatever the terms are my sister and I will have to live with them as we ultimately both accepted the lease payment from Pine Belt. Its a long story, but neither of us had any level of sophistication with oil/gas leases and didn't have the time to try and educate ourselves.

Should I contact Pine Belt to get a copy of the lease, or should I try and get a copy with registered at the Union Parish Court House?

I am also wondering what the general thought is on the probability of widespread oil/gas drilling production is in Union Parish in the next 4 years?

I would appreciate any thoughts or advise on how I monitor or manage the mineral rights to our land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
