Nelson Energy of Shreveport is in process of completing well in Township 21 North, Range 3 West.  Have no idea as to potential, but those on scene seem optimistic.  Same company has applied to Conservation Department for permits to drill other wells in area.  There have been some leasing offers in Range 2 west since last Thursday.  Do not know depth of pay sand, but I suspect it to be no deeper than 10,000 feet.  Will keep you posted with my limited skill and knowledge.

Mr. Mitcham,

Relatives and I own mineral interests in what is known as the Cook Estate lands which are just west of Bernice some of which interests are leased.  Where is this well in relation to Bernice and our mineral interests?

MR. Holstead,

Your property (cook) joins ours in several locations depending on who owns what in Cook/Lowery lands.  The only land we have leased near you is in Section 20, Township 21 N, Range 3 W, and that is only for the Cotton Valley Sand.  I am in discussion with a firm regarding leasing our (700+) acres in Union/Claiborne Parish, and I would really like to know where you have leased lands and to whom.  The completion which I am referring to is quite removed from yours and the majority of our acreage as it is in Section 36 of the above referenced township and range.  We have a producing well in section 35 in which we have acreage.  The Cook/Lowery, Davis, and Mitcham families have a longtime and strong  relationship as to oil/gas and timber.  We do business the old fashioned way and always look out for our neighbors.  Are you the Johnny Holstead of the cat bathroom habits story that Mr. Harry, Sr. so enjoyed telling??  It is so good to hear from you as I have heard of the Holstead clan all of my life but have never seen or talked to one of them.  I will share with you any information that I have re: mineral issues, & hope that we can continue our conversations.  I can share many Uncle Harry stories with you.  Later,  wcm

WCM,

Sorry about not responding sooner. Just discovered your message to me this evening.  I am one and the same John Holstead that my Uncle Harry loved to tell the cat story about.  Amazing that you heard that story so long ago and remembered it.

I practiced civil trial law with a large firm, Vinson & Elkins, in Houston for almost 40 years, and I am now retired.  My mother, Maurice Cook (Holstead) was Harry Cook's youngest sister.  My family moved to Ruston in 1952 where I attended high school.  I graduated from RHS in 1956, La. Tech in 1959 and the University of Texas School of Law in 1962.  My father, J.B. Holstead, was an independent landman during the period he and my mother lived in Ruston--they are now both deceased.

I visited my grandmother's home in Bernice most summers when I was a child.  Harry Cook, Jr. is my cousin; and, as you know, continues to live on some of the Cook Estate lands near Bernice.

I rarely have occasion to return to N. La. or Bernice, but the next time I am there I will make a point to come to see you and introduce myself.  In the meantime, I would appreciate being informed by you about the O&G leasing and drilling activity in the area around Bernice.

John Cook, cousin Harry's son, is good about keeping me informed about the activity on the Cook Estate lands.

Best wishes,

John B. Holstead

Houston, Tx

JOHN,

SO GOOD TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOU.  IN MY HOUSE, THE OIL LEASING IS DEAD.  WE HAVE ALMOST 800 ACRES OF UNLEASED ACREAGE & HAVE NOT HAD A LEGETIMATE OFFER SINCE PINEBELT RENEGED ON US IN JULY, 2010.  STAY IN TOUCH & I WILL TRY TO DO THE SAME.

LATER,

WCM

John,

I am making the connection with you now...my daddy M.H. Anders (Pete) practiced law at V and E as well...he was married to my mom Patsy Ruth Hollis..she passed several years ago. I have been in North LA for the past week..heading back to Houston tomorrow. Daddy lives in Shreveport now...he remembers you.  Look forward to talking to ya.

Mary Alison Anders Knighton:-)

Hey Mr. Mitcham and Mr.Holestead,

I have "talked" with William before. I don't know ya Mr. Holestead. I have family land in Union Parish. My granddaddy was Morelle Hollis and my grandmother..Miss Lillie Lowery. I am Patsy Ruths daughter.  We all have land in close proximity.  Looking forward to talking to ya more.

Have a blessed evening,

Mary Alison Knighton:-)

THANKS ALISON, YOU STILL OWE ME A VISIT.  I HAVE COME OUT OF RETIREMENT AND GONE TO WORK BECAUSE I CANNOT SELL A LEASE, BUT MY JOB IS FLEXIBLE ENOUGH THAT I CAN SEE YOU ANY TIME YOU VENTURE UP THIS WAY.

LATER,

WCM

I talked with Nelson Energy late today; was told that they are in Section 21, T21N, R3W.  They were not interested in 184 Mineral Acres that we own in Sections 28 & 29 as "Susan" (Nelson Energy) told me that their prospect did not go that far.

ODT.

What did they offer?
We have mineral interest in Sec 21, 21n, 3w and have not been approached by Nelson.
is there any interest in section 36?
