It could be a mistake at TRRC, Michael, but I doubt it. I did see that it is W. Coote on RRC map. I can't say why, though. I checked the San Augustine Co. records and they also show William Coote, A-10. They do not show a Coats survey.
I just searched land grants on the TGLO website and A-10 was a spanish land grant to William Coote, a native of Ireland, on Feb. 4, 1835. A search for "Coats" in San Augustine for an original grant or patent gets no results.
Michael, I don't know what would be involved in doing that. I think it would have to go through the Texas General Land Office, who issued the original and any subsequent patents on the survey. That is where I would start if I were to undertake something of this nature.
