Four questions for those who know far more than I do...

#1) Considering a well's production drops off so much so quickly, what happens to a well after a year or more? Does it just stop producing at some point?

#2) How productive is refracing? It can't return a well to original production, right?

#3) I've heard the HA is really "dense." (I read some news article somewhere...) It mentioned that a single unit can support eight wells? Is that what will happen to all units eventually, many years down the road?? Doesn't that seem a little crazy, or can the shale really support that? (Maybe we don't know yet?)

#4) What happens for the mineral rights owner if the operator doesn't drill within the first three years?

Thanks for any help on these questions... Enjoy the weekend.

What effect would local faults have if you drilled your laterals through them?
Mac, from what I know of the situation in 10-14-14 and via a discussion with a guy that drills wells for a living, if you hit the fault during the drill you are pretty much out of luck and have to start over. In the case of 10-14-14 they are seeking to drill from another area (sec 9 perhaps) in order to avoid the fault while running the lateral in to sec 10.
Thanks, but I'm wondering what happens in the physical sense. Why are you out of luck? Does your well bore collapse? gas escape? bit break? water flood the well? all life as you know it stops instantaneously and every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light? Total protonic reversal?
If memory serves the guy told me that it destroys the integrity of the drilled hole that needs to be taught or intact in order to get the natgas to return via pressure. I guess it's like punching a big hole in a water hose.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
