A good place to start is the Texas Railroad Commission website. I don't use the main page much, though. Instead, start on this page:

http://www.rrc.state.tx.us/data/online/gis/index.php#

There is a link at the top of the page for the GIS MAP, where you can search your surveys and find wells in your area.
Or you can use the "Drilling Permit Query" link to search for well permits by district, operator, survey, county... lots of options.

I suggest that you take the time to explore the GIS MAP, the drilling permit query and the "related links". It takes time to learn how to navigate TRRC but, unless you learn those ropes, you will be stuck having to post a question every time you want to know about development in you area of interest.
Kaye Fink-- what is survey abs.# of your J. White Survey and location of your surface land in this survey. The RRC Map is in error it list Joel White as A-773 but on older map the Joel White has Hyw 7 running thru the NE part and should be A-774 not 773. I know because my grandparents had a farm near Hyw 7 and legal deed said A-774 as far back as 1903. There are 3 J. White Surveys one to south of the Joel White listed as A-777 and the other is south of the Henry Ashbrannon Survey which is just south of the J. White A-777. I send all this info to the RRC Map Division today and they are reviewing. So were are you located(surface land) in what you call Joel White and what is legal discription in you lease with Devon? Kaye on another post you talked about Lewis Watkins survey A-808 which is just south of J. White listed on rrc map as A-774 which I think is error and should be A-773 and if your land that is in J. White is next to the lewis watkins you owe then that confirms the error and the Joel White up north by hyw 7 should be A-774 and your land in A-773 is J. White and the J is not "Joel" but something other name. Please reply to this post
110 acres, more or less, located in the Joel White Survey A-773 and the Lewis Watkins Survey A-808 and being more particularly described in a Deed from W.O. Keener (my grandfather) et ux to W.E. Holt, dated November 21, 1923 and recorded in Volume 121, page 626, of the Deed Records, Shelby County, TX.

I have the original deed with the particulars as outlined by fence posts etc. all handwritten....
so your surface is contiguous with both the J. White Survey and L. Watkins Survey-Yes
I do not know because I can not find on the viewer where these touch, unless what you say is correct that their site isn't correct. I can't get the viewer to work right now though.....
Kaye-- follow instruction below should help you find the rrc gis map
Kaye-- click on the link above in jffree post that will direct you to the RRC site of Texas. on the page that this link opens click on RRC's Public GIS viewer. you will then see map of Texas on the right side panel click on survey/abstract this will open search pape top left is pull drop box pull down to Shelby County high light it then in box that has abstract A- blank put in 808 and the hit search then click on map icon next to the name L. Walkins that will download the local area of the Lewis Watkins Survey and just to north the J. White Survey (Which on map says A-774 in corner which I think is error. on right panel you can click on zoom in or zoom out and see larger area and if you look just up north you will see the other 2 J. Whits Survey list as 777 and 773 which the one up by hyw 7 should be 774 not 773. Then if you look over to the NE in the Henry Ashbrranon survey you will see the first Shale well drilled by CHK the Harvey #1H which was dissappointing < 1 mmcfd but that had big problems completing the well
So looking at all that, I can see that nothing has been done other than a dry hole on A-808, correct??? Just out of curiousity, where is this area located on a "real" map?
go back and click on zoom out at 1.5X intervals until you get out far enough to recognize hyw, FM roads etc. land mark you know where you are and you can see -- by the way this is a "real" map of Texas You are basically in Shelbyville area
so this looks like it is around Shelbyville.......should I do something to help correct this mistake as far as the particular surveys???
I've reported it to the mapping division of RRC in Austin today I'll let you know if they need addition info to correct it but I think some clerk made typo several years ago. I have landsman maps in the 80s and 90s that had it correct and error showed up on maps in the early 2000s I sure they will correct it if not could be headache for the companies to run title on the surveys. If we get lucky and get a well will need to be correct for sure. keep eye on two wells premitted by CHK 4-5 miles to the NE of you and hope they are good and lots of well to the south of you around center watch those as drilled. Hope all this info was helpful to you--good Night
This may sound stupid, but what do you mean "keep eye on two wells premitted by CHK 4-5 miles to the NE of you and hope they are good and lots of well to the south of you around center watch those as drilled", how do you keep an eye on them? By looking at the RRC's Public GIS viewer periodically? Does it stay up-to-date?
