Interesting Vertical Completions in West Central Shelby, Co above/below HA-BO by Unit Petrolium

A few interesting completions coming in recently for the Arcadia Quadrangle area of West/Central Shelby County.

These have all been vertical completions by Unit Petrolium and they are showing that the area does have some oil (Pettet) in the formations above HA/BO depths and that there is some potentially interesting production in the Cotton Valley (Haynesville) Lime formations that are directly below the HA/BO Shale.

1) Unit Petrolium/Campbell #1: CV-Haynesville Lime

IP reported this morning in E.Tx Drilling Report:

"The Stockman Field has seen the Campbell Well No. 1 completed by Unit Petroleum to 11,962 feet 7.3 miles northwest of Center. This well potentialed 2.220 million cubic feet of gas on a 15/64-inch choke. Production is in the Travis Peak."

The reported formation in the paper is Travis Peak, but the depth at 11,962' for this vertical actually would correspond to the Haynesville/Cotton Valley Lime formation that is below the HA Shale.

For comparison purposes on the depth, Devon's Adams 1-H was recently completed about 1 mile to the North of this well and the pay zone reported in that completion was a pay zone at 10,957' in the Haynesville Shale.

Devon's horizontal completion for that HA Shale well was only IP'd at 1.5 mmcfd. Interestingly, this vertical completion by Unit is 1,000' deeper and has IP'd at 2.22 mmcfd on a pretty restricted 15/64 choke.

Could be very interesting when one of the O&G come around to drilling a horizontal CV/HA Lime in this region.

D.Gaar--Unit may have TD this well at 11,962 but plug it back perf and fac the Travis Peak for production only is how I read the report
Another thought is maybe that, since this is a vertical completion, that perhaps the are comingling production from TP and the lower CV Lime? Guess we'll have to wait until the G-5 is reported to TRRC to see what the actual pay zone is.
D. Gaar--would very unusual to comingling formations that where not contiguous to each. Fac would be different for sand vs limestone formation I beleive but I couild be wrong. If production from something other than TP the report would have so stated I would think
2) Unit Petrolium/ Smith #1 - Cotton Valley (Haynesville) Lime:

IP reported recently in E.Tx Drilling Report:

The Smith Well No. 1 hit 11,765 feet eight miles west of Center in the Stockman. On a 14/64-inch choke the well potentialed 1.328 million cubic feet of gas. Production is in the Cotton Valley.

Decent results for a horizontal at 1.328 million on the restricted 14/64 choke. Most interesting thing to me is that the depth is about 800' below the reported HA Shale depths from other HA/BO shale completions in the area.

This well is right next to CHK's Smith 1-H horizontal well that is near completion. Will be interesting to see CHK's results for the horizontal and also to see what pay zone CHK's well is ultimately producing from.
3) Unit Petrolium/Jones #1: Pettet Oil
IP Reported this morning in E.Tx Drilling that this well was completed in the Angie(Pettet) and that the well did hit oil at 8,900'. Ben White Survey (A-762). This one is about 1/4 just to the East of CHK's Smith 1-H that is near completion.

IP flow reported was only listed at 3 BBO, but Choke size reported as "not available" so my hunch is that it is being pretty restricted. At least it does confirm that their is some oil present in this area in the formation above the HA.BO. Perhaps this area might get even more interesting results with a proper horizontal oil completions in the future?

Very true, no doubt...
David, exactly where is the location that is mentioned here.....It is down Hwy 7 from Center going toward Nacogdoches? Or is it Northwest of Center up 96? Exactly where is this talking about?

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
