I just listened to a replay of Crimson's earnings conference call and found it very interesting that they stated that over the Sabine Island area they believe it will be prospective for the Haynesville Lime. I know Devon had some big directional wells with early success in the lime over in Shelby county but have not heard much about it since. Also discussed was that the Haynesville Lime lies below the Haynesville and Bossier Shales. I guess one could infer that the Haynesville is not pinched out at least in part of Sabine county if it lies above a prospective formation. Thoughts on the potential of this as a target? Do they drill the H.Lime horizontally? If so what could that do to the recovery over a vertical? Is is something that is naturally fractured or do they have to manually fracture the rock? I will post over on the main page as well to see if more answers come from there.

Is the Haynesville Lime and Smackover the same formations.....am I correct?
Ken, the Haynesville Lime is below the Haynesville Shale and above the Smackover formation. Please see the attachment.

AL, my underatnding is the Haynesville Lime would require horizontal wells for development but maybe not multi-stage frac's. Just need to see more development activity.
Les, is that not a small window, the Haynesville Lime... would you be looking for gas condensate or just more dry gas? Thanks for the attachment.
I was told by an Endeavor landman that they weren't very interested in the shale at these prices, but did encounter some pay in the Haynesville Lime with the Hall #1. That is what they intend to produce.
Jon, I am afraid more operators are feeling that way other than the HBP. The Eagle Ford is starting to mildly pick the Haynesvilles pocket for rigs. Since both Sabines are joined at the hip so to speak this is interesting.
Ken, the rig count for the Haynesville Shale has remained steady for the past couple of months. No operators have indicated any plans to reduce the rig count this year.
Ken, I believe the Haynesville Lime would be dry gas similar to the Haynesville Shale.
Les, That is what is being produced from the Haynesville Lime in Shelby County.
Devon's Oliver #4 well seems to be producing from HA Lime depths. Directional well that is currently the best producer in all of Shelby Co.

Completed in Sept '08 with an IP of 19.6mmcfd. Has produced about 6-1/2 BCF of dry gas in just under 2 years.

Devon also has a permit for a horizontal completion in that same unit that has not yet been drilled. Imagine that they want to get all of their acreage leased and HBP'd prior to testing out a horizontal completion in the formation.
Attached is the completion report filed with TRRC for the above well.

Production report for that Oliver #4 directional drilled well:

Peak production was in Nov '98 at just about .74 BCF in that month alone = 24.68 mmcfd for that month.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
