SALT LAKE CITY -- What better way to celebrate the opening of a compressed natural gas station than to give away free fill ups?

That was the strategy at CH4 Energy at 2100 S. 875 West in Salt Lake City Saturday. The station officially opens Monday, but drivers of vehicles that run on CNG got in on the celebration a few days early.

The state-of-the-art station dispenses the fuel at a rate of 10 gallons a minute.

"This fuel in our station comes from Wyoming and Southern Utah and parts of Colorado. It's very abundant. We have more natural gas in the United States than Saudi Arabia has oil." -Merritt Norton"This fuel in our station comes from Wyoming and Southern Utah and parts of Colorado," said CH4 Energy President Merritt Norton. "It's very abundant. We have more natural gas in the United States than Saudi Arabia has oil."

James Hansen uses CNG for his car. He says the savings are significant.

"I drive about 20,000 miles a year," he said. "I figure I can save about $2,500 a year in gas alone."

When the station opens for business next week, CNG customers can expect a great deal on fuel -- about half the cost of regular gasoline.
