One hour ago drove by well sites.  Sounds like fracturing pumps running wide open, tank trucks lined up hauling frac water from sites.  Looks like about half the water in  frac pond gone.

There is known to be water in the Upper Smackover and the danger is that if the fractures go into that the water can leak down into the Lower Smackover, but I'm confident that SWN avoided doing that.

There is virtually an ocean of salt water(brine) above the brown dense. Union and Columbia counties sit atop one of the largest brine deposits in the world.

That Brine is the source of the Bromine deposits Great Lakes and Albermaryle have been extracting for decades.

Can't find the reference to it right now, but I recall Mueller commenting recently that although there was a concern about possibly frac into water in the Roberson well (hence the reasoning for targeting the lower part of the formation), they did not have that concern about the second and third wells that were being drilled.   Also recall mention of possibly going with more horsepower on the frac as well.

Scout report dated 3/23/2012 reports "Flowing to Test"

Southwestern is scheduled to present Monday, March 26, at the Howard Weil 40th Annual Energy Conference in New Orleans. Presentation time is 2:05 pm. There will be no telecast, but SWN will hopefully post the transcript at their site, or other sites such as Seeking Alpha will post it. I hope they will have the latest news about all 3 of their Lower Smackover wells.

I think Mueller said they wouldn't be released until May Q1 presentation. Meanwhile, here's a rumor that I would like to see if anyone could confirm.

"Ok, this is what someone told me yesterday, fact or not I do not know. SWN is moving four more rigs into the Brown Dense play and wants to transfer some employees from the Fayetteville shale area to the south Ar and north La area. I have not confirmed this information. MIC "

I've read a number of that guy's posts and the track record isn't too great.  I was told something similar by a landman recently, but it was in the midst of my complaining about the terms SWN was proposing in a lease they had sent, so I doubt that was all that meaningful.  OTOH, why would they NOT?  SWN stands to gain more than anyone from all this, and if they think they've got a winner and sufficient information to properly develop the play, it seems like the logical thing to do from a business perspective.

I haven't heard anything about this, but I agree with DavidR that, if SWN thinks the BD play is economic, it would make sense to step up activity there, as the economics of the Fayetteville Shale at current NG prices must not be so good.

Thanks for the link to that thread. One of the posters there, "findoilgas", sounds a lot like one or two of our GHS members, both in his claimed technical expertise and in his unremitting negativity. It's good, though, to get a range of perspectives.

I heard this too a few weeks back from someone in N. AR who has a geologist friend in Fayetteville.  I don't know if it's true either though.  I do know they have applied for two wells 2 sec's away from one of my sec's and are going to do a shothole on mine.  All down Grafton Crossing in Bernice, Union Parrish.  Fingers crossed!!!!

SWN sent a rig to the marcellus shale on mar 17, the crew went up on the 21st. Swn only has one rig left in the fayettville big enough to drill the depths of the brown dense, rig 26. Of course they could hire as many as they would like, but they only have one left here that they could use there. They are divesting some assets in texas and offering some hands jobs elsewhere, not many takers. They will need more good results before your rumor of "four" rigs moving there happens. Best bet is to just wait for presentations from SWN, they want to keep their major investors well advised on whats happening.

Since we are discussing rumors, and cussing facts, here are my two cents worth.  The DeSoto rig gone to PA is #8. (one of their smaller singles. A company man once told me these rigs can work with a two person crew) I hear that a couple more are going, but this is from folks who may or may not know the real story.  Rig 21 just finished a set of 8 wells on a pad near here a couple of weeks ago, it has moved, but I don't know where it landed.  From what I hear, it's still in the neighborhood.  Rig 26 is on it second week of an 8 well pad.  I hear it's drilling right now.  (and I mean that, I can hear it running right now)  I understand that these two big rigs, (21, 26, both triples) are waiting for the word to go south.  I also think it was announced that the Saxon rigs or on their way to CO.  I have not heard of any SWN employees being asked or offered to move south, but it's not like I know them all.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
