After several months of reviewing leases by Tacoma Energy, HEP Energy and EQX for lands from Hwy. 1 just south of Caddo Lake eastward to the river and extending somewhat into Bossier Parish I am relatively sure that the target is the Annona Chalk. The client upon whose behalf the listed land companies are taking or have taken leases also acquired a couple of state leases in the Soda Lake area through New Holdings LLC. That and the recent permitting of two wells by Petro-Chem Operating Company lead me to believe that the first wells will be drilled soon. The Mills & Co 6 #1 is a vertical well. The Chevron USA Inc 7H Should be the first horizontal attempt at economic production. Although it is possible that Petro-Chem is behind the prospect with some investor assistance, it may be that they are fronting for a larger energy company that would prefer to remain unknown until the initial wells deliver enough science to validate the play and help define the extent of the productive fairway.

Any more up to date information on this play?
I believe the Chevron USA Inc 7H has been completed. Since it's the first serious attempt at a production well I don't expect Petro-Chem to be in any rush to report it. They will likely delay the release of any completion data as long as possible.
The well was completed prior to July 16.

Yes, but it's not hard and fast and gets circumvented on a semi-regular basis. In regard to this well, it was completed and announced in December.

Skip and others, do you think this completion will warrant further development?
Thanks, treeman
Too early to tell, treeman. We need to watch how the production changes over time. Since the well IP'ed on an open choke it will likely go on artificial lift soon if it's not already. It will have to be long lived to recover the well cost if 44 BOPD is the best 24 hour production.
Skip, I have been contacted by "AX (or some darivative of) Energy out of S.W. La wanting to lease my acreage in S32-TS19-R15W. He wanted to lease for $400 acre and 20% for 5 years. I told him I knew of a recent leasing for $500 acre. I told him I wasn't interested in those figures because they were too low.. He asked what I wanted.I told him fair market value. He asked if 22% was adequate. Ultimately he stated if we couldn't come to a figure then I would be forced pooled. I told him I was iterested if the figures were right. My property is just South of UOP and to North of Blanchard-Latex Rd, Can you give some insight. I am definitely not interested in being taken advantage of again and conveyed that fact.
Jody, I would refuse to even negotiate with a "landman" that threatened force pooling if I did not accept his/her offer. It's beyond unprofessional and makes me suspicious of AX Energy. The preponderance of leasing in your area is associated with the Anadarko Haynesville Liquids prospect where the base lease value is $500 per net mineral acre and a 22.5% (9/40ths.) I would like to see landowners in that area get those lease terms and a standard vertical and horizontal Pugh clause as a minimum. The unprofessional conduct of the AX landman leads me to believe that they are representing a speculator who is looking to get ahead of the land companies leasing for Anadarko so they can resell their leases for the difference in the bonus amount and royalty.

Input the sale date, August 8, 2012 and hit the query button. This will give you the results of that month's state mineral auction which includes a number of bid tracts in your area. Charleston Energy, Tacoma Energy and Strata Acquisitions all are representing Anadarko in this auction. And they all have the same bids: $538 acre and a 22.5% royalty. Make a copy of this and use it on any landman that shows up at your door. I suggest you ignore AX and wait to see if one of the land companies working for Anadarko come calling (HEP Energy, Tacoma Energy or Strata Acquisitions).
Skip
Thanks for the feedback. Another phone call from this guy showed HPS Oil & Gas Production on the caller I.D. Just an FYI notation. It illustrated the area code for S.W. La (337).
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
