The town of Haughton held a Haynesville shale meeting Saturday night.

About 200 people came together and learned why bargaining power is so important when negotiating with oil and gas companies.

Eric Clarke, president of the East 80 Oil and Gas Coalition, talked about leasing tactics that companies are using to draw people in.

He also touched on some of the unique situations and worries people who live in rural areas may encounter with drilling companies -- like the strain drilling could put on a public water system.

"Some of our public water systems out here are well water. We want to know that those are protected. We want it in writing, that if something does happen that they're going to be taken care of. Not 2-3 years down the road, battling things in court, but they're going to be taken care of up front," said Clarke.

Great meeting last night. All unsigned Dogwood Park/South landowners, take note -- we're welcome in this coalition.
