Thank you for your response. Will this attorney answer questions for an hourly fee or do you have to retain him? I am dealing on this lease for 4 people, three are elderly and really would like the money now, as we signed a 5 year lease and the landman told me he could not change this to 3 year lease with 2 year option. He also told me I could not get a check, only a 45 day draft. So I really don't know what to do. I am going to Marshall tomorrow to see for myself that the lease has been recorded and when. I live in Burleson, but one of the heirs lives in Marshall, and he is 84 years old, so a 5 year lease and hoping to get royalties is not likely. Thanks again, please let me know what happens and I will do the same. My e-mail is burke29buddy@att.net.

If the they told you it was filed in Harrison County I would not settle without talking to an attorney and see what maybe another opinion might be on the matter. Please keep me posted and I will keep you posted. My Mother always told me Oil Companies would mess you around (nice way to put it) in a heart beat. And she dealed with many in her lifetime.

I have turned my over to an attorney in Marshall. He has assured me they can not do this as they filed the lease. They did call me and offer $1,500.00 an acre which is a far cry from the $14,000.00 I signed for and they filed in Harrison County. My daughter-in-law works for an oil company in Dallas, and her legal department advised me not to settle for one penny less than what they offered in August. My attorney wrote them a letter, but we have not heard anything yet (or I have not heard from him yet, I believe they will contact him not me). But I think I am going to wait them out for awhile, since everyone that deals with this has told me they will have to pay the amount that they offered and filed in August 2008.

Thank you for this information. We are hoping for an offer as someone in our same survey has had an offer of $5,000 per acre, but we have not been contacted. Don't know if we are in Haynesville or Bossier Shale.

My Samson property is located between fm 1201 and north toward crossroads. There are 4 producing wells and ground work is ready and waiting for #5 to be drilled. All Cotton Valley formation wells. This unit lies within the Henry Harper and partly in the Lucinda Wallace Surveys. I am blessed with these wells but the checks will not compare to the wells producing from the Haynesville Shale.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
