Petrohawk Maps - How Much Area Does the Bossier/Haynesville Shale Cover in Louisiana? (11/24/09)

Based on the recent Petrohawk maps for the Haynesville & Bossier Shale, I attempted to estimate the size of the plays in Louisiana only. My estimates are as follows for Louisiana:

Haynesville Shale - 1,891,584 acres
Bossier Shale - 1,135,872 acres

Also, I estimated an area of of almost 900,000 acres where both the Haynesville and Bossier Shales are present in Louisiana.

Based on the above areas there could be ~ 219 Tcf of recoverable gas combined (Louisiana only) and almost 38,000 well locations.

The following is a listing of Township-Ranges where one or both shales are present based on the Petrohawk map. Of course the productive area could actually be larger based on future drilling results.

Ronald, you must be referring to the Gulf Crossing and Midcontinent Express Pipelines. These are both new 42" gas pipelines.
les-- you have a link for that map? thanks.
Cal, check the November 2009 presentation at the following link. I have also attached the map.

Do the logs show any Bossier+HA love for 14/11? Thanks.
Here's a few. I think they were using a log from 237838 to define the formation for a few other wells but I could be wrong. And thanks much Jay.

No complaints and thanks for checking. C'mon Buckner!!! haha.
Hi Les and Jay!

Do ya'll have a link for the map that you are referencing? The only one I can find only includes southern DeSoto and northern Sabine parishes.

Thank you both very very much.
Thank you, I guess that I don't need to look at the map after all. LOL I will remain thankful for what I do have.
Insomniac, one of those maps shows the Bossier going as far north as 15/14 of N. Desoto. We have property in Sec. 21 of that area, so that was of interest to me. I have talked to several gas people & 14/14 Desoto has good Bossier shale. Also in sec. 7&8 16N 14W south Caddo, I believe Chesapeake as filed for Bossier and Haynesville units. Jay can you check on that? It would take the Bossier shale into south Caddo
Insomniac, see my response to Cal above with link and map.
Les and Jay,

Thank you both very much, I do appreciate it.
I would like to know if franklin parish in Northeast La. is located in the oil rich area.
