Received Letter today wanting to buy only OIL interest in 14/14 Desoto

got an offer in mail today offering good money for 10% interest in any OIL well drilled within next 5 yrs. in 14/14 Desoto. This was for oil only & excluded other minerals, so it wasn't about the gas being drilled now

There have been many penetrations in the area into the Cotton Valley and Hosston in most all of these sections, no signifigant oil finds, being there is no oil in the Haynesville and a 99.99999% chance there is no oil under the Haynesville I find this offer very very sketchy. Especially after Spring Branch's math, I would bet the bank that the offer is for all minerals, just deceptively worded.
I agree with you Bob. Remember all the leasing going on it spring 2008 for $100-$350 an ac. ($350 was considered the top, top price). Then Petrohawk let "the cat out of the bag" about the Haynesville and the rest is history. I have talked to the man who made the offer. His co. has bought out some other smaller gas companies, so he is legitimate. No, we are not taking the offer. The reason I posted this info is that the offer was for OIL only. That makes me think that perhaps there is more info out there than has been shared with the public. Just my opinion. Seismic companies continue to do tests all around us (new co. starts next wk.). Why the tests over & over & over? Now they are drilling 60 ft. down & placing charges. By the way, every seismic worker has told us that they are looking for the oil. Pretty soon, one wonders!!!!!!!!!!!!
The seismic workers don't know what they are talking about. They are doing the seismic to gather more detailed information on the Haynesville, like I said before 14/14 has been extensively drilled and logged, what oil bearing formations there are have been explored. And there is a 99.99999999% chance there is no producable oil under the shale
Perhaps it would be good to discuss the offer with whom you leased your gas minereals. If indeed it is legit. kindly usher them towards Sabine Parish.
That is equivalent to $40,000/ac for your royalty---OIL ONLY! Be very, very careful. You know what they say about when it sounds too good to be true!
I would be interested to know the name of the company doing the offering and the section, maybe it is bogus, and maybe not.
I don't think there is any way that this isn't a scam of some sort. Or somthing deceptively worded.

Checkmateking, I agree that it sounds like a scam; however, the company making the offer is legitamate. For the past week there have been people knocking on doors in this area offering to buy minerals. Our neighbors were offered $5000 an ac. for 50% production for 5yrs. and that offer included all minerals.
We got a letter from Marco Land Services on Monday also, it didn't mention oil it stated minerals and they wanted to purchase all or part of them. No mention of money, I promptly put it in the shredder. Our letter might have been worded a little different because we are unleased, but there still was no mention of oil.
FWIW, I live in Frisco and when I Googled the address, it turns out it's over by the mall in a large retail strip center (not really an office environment). I confirmed that the address is just a mail box at the Quick Pack & Ship.
imagine that
