The Ladies Auxiliary of Fire District 9, Frierson, will host a public forum tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the District 9 fire station (that's on Hwy 175 next to Bit's Country Store). This is a regular forum that is put on every year, or twice a year, to inform people in the community of what's happening with elected officials. The two police jurors will be there, as will Senator Sherry Cheek and Representative Richard Burford, Sheriff Arbuckle. This is not a forum dedicated to discussion gas leasing, but the issue will certainly be discussed, and you have the opportunity to ask questions of your elected officials. I want to ask their intentions about spending the parish windfall. I also want to ask if there will be a chance that we in North DeSoto could see natural gas lines constructed to serve our households.

This could be an overflow crowd, so if you plan to come, plan to come early. If you get there early, you can meet and greet the officials.

Any update on the meeting?
They really didn't talk about Haynesville Shale matters, after all. Some of our Police Jurors were there (Greg Baker and Reggie Roe), and urged everyone to come to the police jury meetings on Mondays at 5 p.m. to give input on how to spend the money (or how to save the money). Also suggested we write them with our comments. Reggie made a comment about a need to ease restrictions on salt water disposal, but he didn't explain. Then others complained about improper salt water disposal, like one guy talked about finding a spot in the woods where salt water had been spilled, a dead zone. My thought on this is that if Louisiana has tight restrictions on this, they probably are pretty much needed - it's not as if Louisiana's regulations on the oil and gas industry are too burdensome!
