The people I have talked to say even mineral owners are holding out. That is as crazy as anything. Seismic data is being made available for less than 50k psm. This stuff cost over $100,000 per square mile to shoot. The operators and other working interest owners better pull their collective heads outta their collective butts or there is not going to be any seismic data under their AOI.
Sign the permit.

If you want to pursuade landowners to allow seismic shoots on their lands, then make a good, pursuasive argument. Don't just tell them to "pull their collective heads outta their collective butts." That's not going to win anyone over to your side. In fact, you will turn people off to your point of view.

You and the collective others should google some seismic. It is done only once in maybe 10 or 20 years with few exceptions. These wells in the next near future will be based on seismic data. It is simple. You are in or you are out. You don't just change your mind next year and call a seismic company to come by and do your place.

FYI.... I DID sign my permit. My land has already undergone seismic testing. But, your argument sure would do nothing to pursuade me to do it. In fact, your nastiness may turn prospective landowners off to seismic testing.

All I'm suggesting is that you make a good case; don't insult people.
You could've went about this in a much better manner. Drilling a well off of seismic data does not guarantee that you will drill a successfull well. However, it helps out tremendously. Not only to hit the pay-load, but also to avoid drilling hazards, especially in complex geological areas such as the Haynesville. The cost for one certain operator to drill and produce a well in the Haynesville is $7,000,000. Because of the high lease bonuses paid during the "boom" operators were rushing to drill wells to keep their leases. Because a few of these were drilled with no seismic data, they didn't get the numbers they expected, they drilled in to faults, etc. That is a lot of money to spend and come up with nothing. Seismic is a wise investment for any operator and also for landowners. Lease bonuses are good, but the mail box money is much better. An operator could drill with out seismic data and still get a decent producing well......but they could've shot seismic, analyzed and interpreted it and produced a monster by going a little deeper, a little further, etc.
i agree! we signed and recieved both of our checks from 2 diff seismic companies just before christmas!
please allow them access to all properties!
I understand the reasoning to do these readings, but as expensive and rare as they are, why would 2 different companies do the same 3-D reading in the same section? We had one done by Cajun over the summer, now another company has contacted us about doing the same 3-D reading. I bet the cost of these readings gets passed back down to the mineral owner.
Multiple surveys are not uncommon, given the expense of doing a 3D survey why would company A want company B to have access to the data they paid a ton of money to obtain? The only recourse for company B is to pay for another 3D survey. There are some cases where the survey is performed by an independent contractor for purely speculative reasons. They will sell the data to whatever company gives them the best deal, but the terms of the deal will usually prevent them from selling the data again to someone else.
These are overlapping surveys and are independent of each and other. One may be a spec shoot which means several companies have underwritten the cost while the other is propriatary which means one company has contracted the survey. The good news is the overlap part of the survey includes your property which means every one invoulved wants to see your area.
I'M NOT SURE HOW CLOSE YOUR SECTION IS TO MINE, BUT FROM ALL THINGS I'M HEARING, WE ARE SITTING IN THE SAUDI ARABIA OF SHALE. SEVERAL RIGS HAVE BLOWN DUE TO THE ENORMOUS PRESHURES THEY ARE TRYING TO TAP INTO. CHRISTMAS EVE 2 YEARS AGO IN A VERTICAL WELL IS A GOOD EXAMPLE. NOW "THAT"COST EVERYBODY ALOT OF MONEY; WATCHING IT BURN FOR 3 WEEKS. IN MY SECTION ,WE MISSED THE OIL BOOM AND THE OIL BUST DUE TO THE ROCK-BED THAT COULD NOT BE PENETRATED WITH THE RIGS THEY HAD THEN.
