I have inherited 4 acres w/mineral rights in S1, T15, R14. The owner leased the minerals 8 months prior to passing. Can someone tell me how to keep an eye on the activity for this area, and who I can contact via phone for q & a?

Thanks!

Do you have a copy of the lease? Who is the lessee? Have you explored the SONRIS database?
Thanks for such a quick reply. Yes, I obtained a copy from the DeSoto Parish courthouse. Carruthers is the lessee (Shorty Townsend, ?agent? - based on papers I found belonging to the deceased). I don't understand the SONRIS database, yet. Any quick lessons on any of this would be greatly appreciated.

Use this link: http://sonris-www.dnr.state.la.us/www_root/sonris_portal_1.htm

Click on SONRIS Lite under Database Access at the top of the left hand column.
Under Well Information, click on "Wells by Section, Township and Range. Input yours.
1-15N-14W, click on Submit Query. You will notice certain entries which are in colored fonts. You can click on these to get additional information. Though your lease is to Carruthers, Camterra is drilling a well (Camterra probably acquired the deep rights from Carruthers). At this point it is permitted as a vertical well which will produce sufficient gas to hold your lease in force but not enough to produce much royalty income. Eventually Camterra or another operator will drill horizontal wells in your unit.

To track development activity in your township, go back to the Wells by S-T-R page and remove the section leaving that space blank. Click Submit Query. Now you get a list of wells by section for the entire township. Scroll though and note the last few wells in each section and their depth. HA wells will have been recently drilled or permitted and stand out as they are significantly deeper than the other wells listed. As you mineral interest is in Section 1, you should also perform this search for townships 15N -13W and 16N - 14W as the development activity may help you understand what is going on in your section. Print out township grids for all three townships, I believe there is one on the site under Media or Maps on the Main Page. Shade the sections that have unit orders and write in the well names, serial numbers and the operator. Then each week do a fifteen minute review on SONRIS and update your township grids. Good Luck.
I've been educating myself on the SONRIS site for the last hour. Just read your reply. I'm going to give it a whirl and see what happens. Thank you very much.

Camterra had another type of smaller completion rig at the wellsite until just a few days ago. The smaller rig is gone now and the gates have been locked since the rig left. That is at least the third completion-type rig that has been brought in since the well was drilled. The pipeline has already been put in and runs south from the well, then makes a 90 degree turn to the west and crosses Linwood.
Excuse me ignorance, but what is a completion-type rig, and what does that mean to me? Pipeline placement sounds like a permenant structure. Also, do you know how to find out if someone should be receiving royalties?
