For those of us out of state, give us updates as this thing moves through, that is until/if you lose electricity. We're hoping and praying this post stays empty. Also, if you are in the S. LA let us know how the evacuation went.

For those who post pictures/video, I'll feature them up top.

indeed they do!!
KTBS interviewed Bossier superintendent, who had left game at the end of 3rd Qtr., by phone as he was on the road. He said traffic is heavy, that Bossier has had 50 buses prepared to go to NO but the order to send them down had not come in yet to his knowledge.

Here's pics of Cuba from Yahoo. This will be ugly.

I know, I had to laugh at that decision myself. The attendance rate would have been so low somebody would have had to justify the expense, not to mention the fed money lost for the lunch program. Districts are so uptight about that money that the cafeteria managers are known to go & round up kids that they see haven't eaten breakfast.

Well, there's no choice for Bossier now, it is an executive order. Except Bossier will have now used one of its emergency days, I think.
Since Bossier 's buses will be gone south soon or are gone, they would have to be down south before they open the contraflow because all the roads will be leading away from the area on both sides. I would think Bossier would close Monday too.
Bobby Jindal is going to handle this hurricane evacuation with grace and aplomb. Who will we be able to blame? What a difference 3 years and a change of leadership makes!
And hindsight is always 20-20, as is the slow movement of this storm. I agree that the state had dropped the ball on preparedness, probably had done so for years before Blanco ever got there. But there really is no comparison between the lead time we're having with Gustav and the speed with which Katrina developed and sped toward our coast.
Katrina really didn't do that much damage to NO until the levees broke. I remember thinking NO had dodged another bullet the morning after. It's was strange hearing the reports of the streets filling with water since all the AP reports were of minimal damage. I thought it was all a hoax but oh it wasn't.
It sounds like something that Caddo would have done...not Bossier. Everyone was really surprised that they would have scheduled classes on a national holiday to start with.
Lots of traffic heading through Mansfield via HWY 171. Gas stations in town running out of gas. Had to go to four stations to find one with any gas available. Grocery stores have extremely long lines, Manager of Brookshires stated that she was afraid that they would be out of stock of most staple foods by end of the day. Latest track has storm making its way up I-49 and then turning into Texas around the DeSoto parish area. Had to work during Rita that came straight through this area. I hope it is not worse that than storm. It really makes you appreciate how rough it would be down on the coast if it was that bad here.
i bet it was a mess with the construction
This water should fill the lakes and reserviors in the NWLA. There has been a drought all over the South. Will this water help or hurt?
Be nice if the drillers could capture some of this water we'll be getting instead of using well water.
