I just closed on my home and I had the sellers transfer any/all mineral rights. My question is - the legal description on the cash sale deed doesnt show section/township/etc. which most of you have for your property... how can I find this? It's in southern hills - Oleander Drive...
The description on the deed reads:
Lot 8, Lambert Park, Unit No. 4.... how does that translate into section, etc?
Thanks!

Clay,

Scroll down to the very bottom of the main page and look at the Section Township Range map for your neighborhood.

Or you can look at your assessment number the geo number will give the Township, Range and then Section.
Clay,

I tried to look at the map for you but I don't know the area well enough.

Once you pull the map up you can increase the size of the map so that you can view your area and find your section, township and range.

Or you can call the assessor's office in the morning and they will give you the information.
Parker - Thanks for the help. I'll be at work but maybe I can get a chance to call.

Which would I need to search the deed/mineral rights history - just to be SURE i have rights? The description on the deed or the s/t/r?

I posted this in another thread. It tells how to load Section, Township, and Range into Google Earth. It will work on PC or Mac. You can put your address into Google Earth and it will scroll down to street level (you may notice that they have street level pictures in there now for Shreveport!). Once you find your house, increase the elevation to see all of the Sections in your Township.
K_Bain - I did see that yesterday and tried it - but google earth has the wrong street address for my house.. they are about 6 houses off... So I wasnt sure if that would be accurate or not? I also couldnt get the township plugin to work either..
I've done this on my computer at work (running Windows XP) and my home computer (a Mac running OS X 10.4). Once you install Google Earth, close it. Then browse to the website mentioned in Item 2 and click on the first link they give. You *should* see Google Earth open up and download that data.

Now - make sure in the "Places" section (in the left portion of the program window) that Earth Point Townships is checked. When you find your house, back out a little from it (raise the elevation). Depending on how fast your internet connection is, you may have to wait a minute for the data to populate your map.

I have 10MB/s DSL at home and it loads instantly. TS Ike knocked out my DSL and right now I'm using my cell phone's internet connection to post this. Google Earth loads the township data **very slowly**! It takes a full minute to grab and map that. Try it again and give it some time.

BTW - the first link is very accurate, within a few feet. I have land up in Ida and the property lines are also section lines. The fence rows and the data loaded from that website line up perfectly.
Thanks for the help. I actually had to download it in firefox and then once I ran google earth i had to manually open the file... it appears I'm in:

S10 T16N R14W

:) Thanks again!
First six numbers of your account number

181524-006-0053-00.......Township 18N Range 15W Section 24
