We were offered $5,000.00 per acre by Chesapeak, near Blanchard, and then they went down the road, two houses down. and the people got $8500.00. We were robbed by Chesapeak. Would love to hear from more loosers.

Hoosier Daddy
Because Bobby Knight had a temper do you think I believe everybody in Indiana is a hot head. Because Elliot Spitzer had a call girl do I think everybody in New York cheats on his wife. Of course not, as for the New York Times they have no power here. Be gone.
No, but plenty of Hoosiers criticized Bob Knight for his temper and other things. Elliot Spitzer was forced to resign. By contrast, no one on this board (except yours truly) has criticized Haughton's post. I take that as a general acceptance of that kind of talk unless and until someone joins me in rebuking it.
sometime you just ignor slips of the tongue. I personally have many times used that verb, and many others that were acceptible in the 50s and 60s that I find offensive,Now. words are simply that words.
Yes, HD, Haughton Area's comment was offensive and ignorant, and you are right to call foul. Unfortunately, racists are everywhere, not confined to NWLA.
Oh, that's nothing. Back in 2006, the land management companies came around representing Tauren and Chesapeake and offered us about $160/acre. This was strategically planned, as they got the land they wanted in Keithville to drill and place several producers on, without paying anything in bonuses anev even less in royalties. Had we discussed with neighbors and made sure the 640 acres around us did not budge, we would have made way more. This was simply a calculated move by these oil companies to maximize their profits while taking advantage of the people who were gracious enough to agree to lease the rights, and especially those who gave up surface rights.
Hmmm?
I leaned a lot reading this thread!
I leaned that the next time I hear about someone getting raped, it's there fault!
I mean after all, they shouldn't have put themselves in a position to get raped, right?
Take responsibility for your own actions (decisions)... get over it!
Your lucky you got $5000.00. They are leasing all around me and not one has offered me anything at all. We live in a Dead Zone!! Wish ?I had got an offer!!!
This is no where near rape. As someone referenced this is business in an area that has sat relatively quite for some time for the majority of the area.

With all the housing foreclosures in the US, if someone started buying up peoples houses for 25 cents on the dollar (or less) and the market turned around in three months and they started selling houses for much more than they purchased them do you call that rape? I am sure people would get upset for loosing their home but they did not have a gun to their head as they did not when they signed the mortgage for the house they obviously could not afford.

All these companies have taken expensive risk to find oil and gas, this one just happens to be a gold rush play. Had Chesapeake not made the announcement in February and kept leasing for cheap bonuses they could have leased up much more acreage at those prices...which still puzzles me...but it’s good for us all.

BTW many more riches have been made on the landowner royalty than the bonus money in the past. Just ask any of them in the Greenwood or Elm Grove areas.
Texas,
I couldnt agree with you more....
If it is a dry well and Chesapeak loses millions on the well will you give the money back? Will you say you robbed them?

When you buy a car and the next guy pays more than you because you were a better negotiator do you say you robbed the car dealership?

I'm not trying to be a smart ***, seriously just trying to give you another way to look at it.

If you had no plans over the course of your life to contact oil companies and try to get them to lease your land, then be thankful that they have come in and paid you anything.

I'm sure there are thousands of people out there that have gotten paid bonus money on leases for their land and the oil companies never made a dime on them.
I think y'all are missing the point here.
How many bought clothes for their child before they knew mom was pregnant.
A lot of folks got solicited before any news could have been known or learned except to the solicitors.
So when folks say those who signed should have educated themselves, well that would have taken a crystal ball. The Glorious Haynesville Shale Play hadn't been made public. Even Google wasn't aware of it!
To say that those folks were simply ignorant for not waiting is not warranted. They were simply unlucky. The landmen knew exactly that they were taking advantage of those folks. There's no way landowners could have known about something that just didn't exist at the time. The news of the Biggest Gas Find in the US had not happened yet. (does anyone here know where the next big find is going to be and buying up land now?)
Now if the landowners had learned of the news and jumped on a low offer, then that would have been ignorant.
For those landowners who hadn't been romanced by the landmen prior to the good news and are now negotiating, consider yourselves simply lucky, not intelligent!
At least have a bit of respect rather than criticism for those who were, yes, raped by those landmen who got to dance all the way to the Clerks office!
