I have been told that there may have been seismic testing already done in our area in South Sabine Parish. I have been told that this was done by helicopter. I personally have witnessed some non-military helicopters in South Sabine parish during last deer season. I assumed that they were part of the military exercises on Peason Ridge. I am now wondering if the Oil and Gas Co's already have this seismic information and know exactly what is under our land. If they were able to do it from the air, we would have never known that it was being done. My question is: Can someone explain the procedure for doing seismic testing from the air? Also, does anyone have any knowledge of these test on the south end of the play? Thanks in advance for the info.

Anyone? Anyone? Surely there is someone who can enlighten us about this.
Maybe you should post this under Oil & Gas professionals for answer or Jay, the geologist group.
Yes this is the newest way to do seismic testing. Don't know many details.
Thanks Randy. I hear that this type of seismic testing is quite expensive but in this case it may be worth the extra money to the oil and gas companies to do this in stealth mode. Everyone gets all excited when the "thumper" trucks are driving around everyones house. This way no one would know. I have heard from other people in my area that have seen these Unidentified Flying Helicopters (UFH's) as well.
Would someone need a seismic permit to do this type of testing?
That is a good question Thomas. That would have to be figured into the cost savings to offset the extra expense of this type of testing as opposed to the old way. I haven't had time to do any research on this but I will. This just came up late this evening and I was really expecting a lot of input. I am surprised at how little this topic is getting. Maybe this is one of their best kept secrets.
The Black Heliocopters are flying around breaking fine crystal china on the cupboard. Who knows. I would think that a big sonic boom from a B-something bomber might do the deal.
There is an early post on "Jay the Geologist" where Jay addressed this. I believe he said they did do this but I believe he said that it was of no value in determining the existance of Haynesville shale and some other zones.
the seismic crew finsihed up on my property within the past week. apparently they came through laid the grid lines and prepared the holes and such. was told that the next thing would be when the helicopters showed up to meet the crews and then they'd blast at that point. the helicopters are used to carry the seismic equiptment to the crews in the fields and the information is gathered from what i understand loaded and the helicopters carries the computers/information away from the area to be studied.

now, this is just how it was explained to me...my land is in natch parish

Jim, The way that you explain this would indicate that there is no way that they would be able to do this without leasing the land and without the landowner having any knowledge of the testing. Would I be correct in assuming that?
JW: If this is helpful to you. In my situation, they leased my land for testing in October of 2007.

All of it is helpful. I had heard of the seismic testing being done with helicopters a couple of weeks ago and didn't really check into it at all. The question came up today with some other landowners of the possibility that the seismic testing had already been done in our area without any of the landowners knowledge. I am just trying to find out if that is possible or not. It sounds like that it is not possible even using the helicopters their still has to be some interaction with the ground to do the testing. Thanks for the input though.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
