This 6" Pipeline was laid in 1925 and runs from Mansfield, La to Timpson, Tx. It runs through family property on CR 4653 North of Hwy 59 and has been resurveyed recently. The pipeline was apparently purchased by The Express P/L Company out of Austin, Tx. Has anyone else been contacted by this company about bringing this line back to life?

The contract that I have copy of indicates no termination date and lists $0.25/rod for replacing and/or adding new lines. Says will pay for trees and damages, but no value listed. Has anyone else been approached about this line? Also interested in if other similar , original contracts by landowners about this line? What is reasonal value for timber in place and about 20-50 years old?

What value should one expect for existing timber (Pines and Hardwoods)? Are these contracts still legal today after 80 plus years for a pipeline that has been abandoned for at least 60 years?

That sounds like the pipeline I did some timber appraisals on a while back. From my understanding, they were told to renegotiate the $.25 a rod as the pipeline had not been active. You should talk to a forester about the timber damage as it could be significant for timber of that age.
Doesn't sound like it's abandoned now. Another great reminder of why it's so important to pay close and very careful attention to negotitations on pipeline contracts.
The ROW for the old line wasn't even visible, we were able to see with with some very old aerial photos. I went out and walked it and it was on top of the ground in places. The indications I got from the landman were that they were NOT going to try to hold land owners to the old $.25 per rod clause. I know they were planning to compensate for timber. I am going to speak to the landowner I did the work for tomorrow and I'll ask him about the settlement.

Pedro I tried to post on your profile page but couldn't, we've been having trouble with the site. I talked to my landowner, he said he settled on the timber, but not on the surface damage for the pipeline itself. I have heard but cannot verify that the company was ordered to renegotiate the damages because the pipeline had been inactive for so long. The going rate for pipeline damages is $150-$200 per rod plus the cost of timber. So the $.25 a rod is just slightly too cheap! A forester will do an appraisal of the timber, provide both you and the company with an estimate of the value and they will settle with you on timber damages. The company pays the forester for the appraisal. If you have a forester managing your land you can request him or you can use whoever the company is using in the area. That's SOP for these types of projects.
